I agree wholeheartedly with this. While documentation is a high priority for now, wikis have a way to taking a life of their own. In my view, anything that is a) related to OOTP and b) helpful to readers can and should be added.

In case anyone is wondering why there have been few updates to the wiki in the last couple days, I am currently in the process of buying my first house. Between that and work, I haven't had much time to devote to the wiki.

However, now that we have a working organizational structure for the OOTP 12 Documentation, I am hoping to start writing a large volume of documentation articles in the near future.

Any Thoughts Of Using Wiki As A Database Too?

New to this. Has anyone previously made this suggestion, that the OOTP Wiki encourage the production of data tables for things like Ballpark data?

I am trying to put together data to input for minor league parks in the Pacific Northwest. Once I do so, I could publish what I am able to find, and others could add to it, correct it, or whatever. In the end, if enough people did this, the Wiki could become a tremendous reference that would save people a ton of time and effort.

After all, why have everyone who wants to incorporate, say, Avista stadium in Spokane, or Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, or Volcanoes stadium in the Salem, OR area, do all the research separately and each person who does it just has to do it all over again. Not to mention that having others scrutinize your work can only make it more accurate and eliminate obvious mistakes.

Thoughts?

I think that this is a great idea.

After a bit of a break from the site, I will be back making several updates to the wiki over the coming days. Please let me know if there are any areas you particularly want to see developed.

Sure thing. I'll try to post one or two wiki entries on that this week.

Wow the whole site looks so useful! I think I will read through it to get more help and suggestions for OOTP! Therefore I can learn a lot and don't annoy you with stupid questions in the forum. This is nice!

jmknpk2's idea with the back-up is very good. Then nothing gets lost (and losing all the information would be a pity).

An Update

When I first launched the wiki, OOTP 12 did not yet have a complete manual. This was one of my motivations for creating the site.

It got off to an okay start but, unfortunately, we didn't get enough contributions to make the project viable. The reality is that a Wiki only works if there is a large pool of people contributing to it. While there were a small handful of people who put a lot of thought and effort into contributing pages, there simply weren't enough people to make the site useful complete.

In the meantime, the manual for OOTP 12 was eventually released and, after that, a new version of the game came out.

So, from my perspective, I think that there is no longer much value in trying to maintain the site. As well, we have completely run out of momentum for it.

Having said that, if there is anyone who wants to take this project over and try to make a go of it, I would be more than happy to transfer the domain and the database that drives the wiki.

Otherwise, I plan to let the domain registration expire in July. Even so, I'll keep the database in case anyone ever wants to use it.

I apologize that this project didn't turn out to be as successful as I had initially hoped. But, in life, sometimes it just as important to try something and fail.
