A Mariners fan in Brea?!

My last years at home living with my parents were spent in Brea on Puente Street. Moved out after that, then got married and moved way out to Rialto in order to afford a house. Ended up moving to the Portland, Oregon area in 1988, then to the Seattle area in 1995 and, with that special season got hooked on the M's. Lived here now 16 years, but since Piniella left it's been tough. I grew up with the Koufax/Drysdale Dodgers back when they were owned by Walter O'Malley and I got used to rooting for a well-run baseball organization.

What a rude awakening up here when they were a player or two away from the World Series but ownership was so stingy Piniella got frustrated and left. The idiots at the top didn't seem to recognize that their penny pinching would cost them BIG TIME in fan support. Any money they would have spent would EASILY have been more than recouped.

Well, now they've got a decent GM and manager, but still the same two clowns at the top, and Zduriencik's had to work through all Bavasi's dumb contracts and at the same time shrink payroll by 20%. The beancounters rule the roost in Marinersland, and I fear so it will ever be until the team is sold.

How's Brea? I remember when the Brea Mall was built and most of the area was undeveloped. Last time I was down there in 2002 it was an eye-opener how built up everything is.

Hope everything finds you well, and just for fun I'll copy here my signature from a Mariners forum I frequent:

Some men see things as they are and ask "Why?"
Others dream things that never were and ask, "Why not?"
Still others pursue things they greatly desire but ask, "How much?!!!"

Yes sir a Mariners Fan in Brea!!!

Brea is still rocking man, Brea Mall is still the Brea Mall, I am off Lambert right by Brea Olinda High School, There is a Target now right across the street from the Brea Mall right where Toys R Us used to be. It's blowing up in Brea now man, They Just built a Buffalo Wild Wings off Brea Blvd over by the movie theatre with an upstairs bar. Not sure if you ever went to Birch Hills Golf Course but there tearing that down right now so they can put in more houses. It's pretty nice.

I became a mariners fan on Easter in the year of 1989 when my mom put in my Easter basket Ken Griffey Jr's 1989 Upper Deck rookie card. From then on i have been a Mariners fan.

I'm hoping this offseason the Mariners will pull their heads out of there ass and sign someone big or at least move the fences in a little and then sign someone big. hahaha

I grew up with a number of people from our church who went to Brea Olinda. Lived in La Habra Heights during high school so I went to a now-defunct school called Lowell High down towards La Mirada.

Cool story. It was a lot easier to be an M's fan during the 1995 to 2001 period. Your loyalty during this depressing period that started in 2004 is admirable given that it sounds like you never lived up here. Griffey had that sort of effect on people.

No doubt. My concern now is that, while I've wanted the M's to embark on a true rebuild and youth movement since 2004, something they decided to their detriment that they didn't need to do, Zduriencik is being forced by his leashholders to be TOO aggressive in doing it. His budget, some poor decisions, and bad luck have left him with a lineup lacking in decent veteran bats that would allow the kids to break in without dumping on them the pressure of carrying the offense. In addition, it has forced him to try to break in a boatload of virtual rookies all at the same time, three in the starting lineup right now. Smoak, unfortunately, has cracked under the pressure put on him bat third or cleanup. The M's had no business doing that to him with all the financial resources at their disposal.

I just hope who ever they end up getting is someone that will bring some power to the lineup. Tired of seeing this team not scoring any runs. I'm starting to feel bad for King Felix when he goes out there and can't even get any run support.

I will say that I'm a huge fan of Dustin Ackley and i hope they can build around him and Pineda. Really pulling for a Prince Fielder in the off season. Crossing my fingers.

Well, I suppose that depends on your goal. If you are simply looking to win some games and contend for the Wild Card, then fine. But if you are talking about a 7 game playoff series, I want King Felix on the roster. Clearly, the Mariners could use some organizational depth to rebuild and trading Felix would certainly bring that, but what if 3 or 4 years down the road the only thing the Mariners lack is the dominant ace to anchor the rotation?

If he was a few years older and if he didn't have two more years on his contract, I would agree with you, but who knows what the 2012 or 2013 season is going to look like? It's way too soon to think about trading him.

I would be shocked if Fielder was signed by the M's for two reasons:
(1) Ownership would allow that much cash to be spent and
(2) that Fielder would want to play for a perennial loser with not much in the way of support or protection in the lineup for him, and in a pitchers ballpark.

I have been a Mariner's fan since they started in 1977, as I moved here in 1976. I am a Giant's fan first as I have been one since 1966, because my Dad was a fan since he was born and raised in New York. I agree that the Mariners need to fire Lincoln and Armstrong and then sell the team to an owner that places winning above focusing on expenses and budgets.

I saw King Felix pitch twice last year in person and was so sad for him because he pitched so well and they lost both games due to scoring 2 and 1 runs.

Hey a man can dream can't he! hahaha Maybe me trying to sign him in my OOTP offseason will send a random message to the owner that it's possible.

Pretty sad when the only power hittier assosicated with the Mariners at the trade deadline is Ryan Ludwick. Pretty sad. I saw King Felix pitch this year in Anaheim and it just makes me sad that he can pitch so well and they can't get any runs. It's like Felix in my OOTP season as he's only 5-13 now. Ahhhhhh

I did hear that Kenny Powers will be available in the offseason so i guess they can go after him.

Edit: I just realize i have to log in names. My other name is Aceshigh24
