I think this guy might make a decent utility guy.

Clearly there's only one thing to do: force start him at catcher in AAA until he gets a rating.

I drafted a similar player with maximum ratings across the board except nothing at RF. I did force start him in minors at RF but he didn't pick up a RF rating in a season down there and I called him up to the majors as cover for the other 6 positions. I wanted someone who could do the lot, but 6 out of 7 aint bad.

The great thing is he can play all positions extremely well.

He wouldn't make a bad starting SS or 2B, either.

Just out of curiosity...what does the written text scouting report say about him? "Destined to play in the minors"?

He could pitch, too(14/12/2), but catcher just wasn't in his skill set either!

Back in OOTP11, I needed a late inning defensive sub and a catcher to get me through three weeks as a backup 'til someone got off the DL.
In the rule 5 draft, I found a player named James Barrett who had ratings of 18/20+ in all 8 positions. He was entirely too valuable to ever let go and just good enough with a bat to stick around-- hitting around .260 with good on base numbers. Bizarrely, in his third season, he developed 40 HR a year power. |

I love these kind of players, but a 46 year old with those kind of defensive ratings really bothers me!

Every year in the June amateur draft I'll spend a couple of draft picks on those types of players. I figure if I draft enough of those types of guys one of them is bound to eventually be able to hit well enough (anything over .200) to play in the majors as a super sub. What a guy like that does is serve as two players and frees up a roster spot for a third catcher or another pitcher. I've started a new universe and I'm only in my third season so the guys I've drafted are still in the low minors, but I'm hoping one day one of them will make to AAA and get to the point where I can call him up.
