Wish me luck
I have been playing since OOTP11 and have not finished a season (I play out every game) yet because I find something else I need to adjust or because I need to download a patch or something. I don't think I have ever gotten past the All-Star break yet! I have created over 30 different leagues now and I am hoping that this will be the last one, I think I have everything just the way I want it, with my fingers crossed may this madness find an end...

What do you keep changing?
I have created 15 or so leagues. In my newest I start with my Endor original 8 with 8 custom players so each team was able to draft a potential superstar (I have 5 of the 8) 4 levels of minors with a 16 team college feeder and a 32 team HS feeder. Hopefull expansion happens quickly. I create new leagues because I keep coming up with new ideas, not really any major differences between the leagues. |

I've been playing since the early days. Sometimes I get lucky and create a league that catches on for 50 or 60 seasons (I usually sim a month at a time). But sometimes, like right now, I create a league, sim a season or two, and decide I want to change this or that and start anew. Over and over again. Drives me crazy.

I've made like 50 leagues altogether, mainly because I get bored of them. The only things I worry about for my setup are turning off options and rule 5 draft, setting the home run LTM to 0.95, setting aging rates to 0.6, and scouting, rating and injury frequency stuff. I don't ever care about unrealistic happenings or anything like that, since these things don't necessarily have to be unrealistic in my universe, since there is no 'realistic' standard anyway.

I hear yeah. I to have the same issues with feeling the need to "start over", or do something a little different this time.
So here's the only way that works for me. Have different types of leagues. Currently, I have: 1. Small 16 team fictional with finance, pitcher dominate league 2. 24 team more modern stats with real cities league, lots of history. 3. Historical reply type league starting in 1954 with real transactions on. 4. Historical with finance with random set to 200 , lots of different career paths. 5. A couple of the QS that I've downloaded over the years and import to the next version. And do I ever really get anywhere with any of them? unfortunately not really. I too wish to be able to stick to just one league, but it's never worked for me either.

You just gotta stick with it and finish the season and then make the necessary adjustments that you think of before the next season. In real life, there were a ton of adjustments that were made in the early days of MLB. You just gotta play out the season as is, when you think of something that needs tweaking, play it out and just chalk it up to the early history of your league. That's how real-life works. Hell, they are about to tweak MLB again (realignment) and they tweak the financial rules all the time. Just gotta be a part of the league history. You are never going to get it so perfect that you never change anything throughout the duration of your league....that would be unrealistic.

Josh as I mentioned before I also have several leagues that i have created. My fav is a remake of my league that I created as kid going back to 1988. I have played this league on basically every PC game since FPS. On 11 I was doing it as a fictional historical starting from scratch. I left off at 2008 when I found out I didnt have any MLB rookies from 2005-2008. I am in the process of putting them in 1 at a time by hand, it's taking forever.
I also have my 16 team ABF league with my Chicago Fire. i started in 2000 and am in 2010 now. I have my 12 team Illinois Baseball League, which i dont play. My MLB historical League, which i am dying to play the reserve clause on 12 with, but havent touched that in 3 months. Eventually i want to finish my 4 Sports League which will have schedules and rosters of the 4 major sports, but last time it failed, I have come up with new solutions to my problems on that 1, i just cant stop playing my 2 Endor Leagues. On High Heat with the exception of my Endor League i never got past 2 seasons with a MLB League. |

I am now sitting here trying to think of what to try next. It might be starting even earlier this time, and using real players without real transactions. I have yet to be satisfied with how the players come out when created with historical players, so I am not sure I will like this any better. |

This is starting to sound like a support group, but yeah, I restart alot too. I've been playing (fictional only) since 2007, and have restarted with every new release. I play out almost all of my 110-game seasons, and my record is four seasons before wanting to start over. Like others above, it's mostly because I've learned more and refined my vision for my league. But with this release, I wanted to take advantage of the enhanced world database, which could only be used in a new game. Also, I just learned of the 25-year pre-sim trick to flush out the original super-players.
This time, I think I've got it where I want it, and should be able to go long. Then again, I said that last year too! |

Do you mind if this excellent bit of league advice makes its way into the OOTPWiki? I think it would make a great addition. pw

I must not need a support group. I start a league, play it, keep on playing it, and fix anything that needs fixing in the offseason. When a new version of OOTP comes out I start a new league. And so it goes.

Though I'd also add that when you begin to play OOTP for the first time, you should expect to restart at least once or twice. You might not know what you want until you do a few laps. But I'm definitely going to live by the words of Kowboy from here on out. Unless some new awesome feature forces me to restart. |

Lol... this is sort of like the OOTP OCD support group thread, and Mr. Wolf seems to be a 'functioning' OOTPaholic.

My only advice, albeit imperfect, is to occasionally jump to something else for an hour or two as a palate cleanser. Considering we've all bought this game digitally, Steam (especially their sales) have been a huge help. For instance, a $5 indie dungeon crawler may (oddly enough) be just the right kick to get back to digging into OOTP. |
