Too Many Leagues
I for one believe that there is now too many leagues in the OOTP community. I myself belong to 4 leagues and it seems like the sims or updates have spread themselves thin lately.. Personally I would love to see some leagues combine or merge... I think I would rather be in one league that worked like clockwork with every owner checking in on a somewhat daily basis. I think that there are enough dedicated commishes that for one reason or another get side tracked and can't complete the neccessary updates to their sites, or sim, or off-season choires. I believe I would rather spend future OOTP online time building up one site and league i could be proud of instead of spending so much time setting up 4 teams and then waiting and waiting for an update.. What does everyone think about this...

Maybe it's just people trying to be in too many leagues?

This has been discussed many times before, but with different answers from everyone. Leagues come and go within one or two seasons. Eventually, the better ran leagues will keep going to become great leagues. There are already leagues that has gone past their first few seasons, and became great seasons. It is a mater of how much can the commissioner take with GMs quitting, his job/school/family, and how much work is involved in a league.
With people being in too many leagues, that is the problem with the person who are in the leagues. I know one GM who is in 11 leagues, and he seems like he remains active in all 11 leagues. I really can't answer this question, because GMs have different time on their hands to be/run in leagues.

Being an active owner in 11 different leagues is great.. What i am really getting at is I think my new goal may be to find a league that sims on a daily basis....no matter what....Have 3 GM's run the league and have multiple reporters and great GM's... I am on the internet everyday and would love to be able to watch and manage one team on a day to day basis, if I new updates were coming and there might be new news articles every day or so... I think that the OOTP community is full of strong programmers, web designers, reporters, and GM's, but there may be only 10 owners like this on average in any league... I check out different leagues everyday on the Online forum and they look great but i sometimes wonder how much better a league may be if people combined talents and you got togather 28 daily GMs.. Just my 2 cents...

A lot of people play the online leagues, and then when they get the experience of trying it, they feel like they want to start a league of their own.
It is the nature of the beast. What looks easy as a GM/Owner, is in reality very time consuming and hard. I appreciate all the Commishes that I am a league member of and respect all their hard work to make their league a fun place to be.

Xpander, if your problem is that you have too much time and energy for OotP than your leagues can satisfy, then you should start your own league.
I had this same problem. I had more time and inclination to work with my OotP leagues than my slow-paced role of owner allowed. It never occured to me to start a league of my own, but I came into one unexpectedly, and now I have an outlet for all the work I want to do. Consider starting your own league, based on the outlines you gave. Recruit some like-minded people for leadership roles, and you’ll have exactly what you’re looking for. |

Agreed -
I am a fantasy sports game nut, and I never have put so much time into a game as I have this past week into setting up a league. It's a task and a half. And having lots of commisioners out there to be willing to put the effort to make these things work is AMAZING. Especially when you consider most of them are paying for the websites for YOU to play on. As for the time thing and having a sim run every day - that's ok if you have the time. But people have other activities in their lives. If I'm gone for two weeks on vacation I'd be screwed in a daily sim league. I think commissioners set up the every 1/2 week or 1 week sim deadlines to allow for everyone to actually play and still do things off the computer they like to do. I know there's a lot of weeks when I would feel like simming every day, and then other weeks where I barely have the time to turn on my computer. |
