Does anyone know why this is? Is this one of the financial problems this patch is supposed to fix?
Yes, indeed (as far as I know). It seems that the formula used to calculate team budgets needed some tweaking as situations such as yours caused nearly all of the teams in the league to run into huge debt issues.

It appears to me that most of the work this year went into iOOTP instead of this version 12. Now Markus says he'll be putting out the second patch already, then after a 2 week vacation, he will fix any further bugs and problems and also adding new features. Let's face it, OOTP 12 is being created RIGHT NOW, with those who purchased the game being the un-knowing beta testers.

BTW, I really feel bad about saying the above, as I have always been a huge fan of the series, buying each new release, but it's true. I mean, why weren't these new features put in the release to begin with? This is really disappointing. This community is the most loyal fan base of any game, and we deserve better IMO.

Those who pre-ordered OOTP12 really just financed the release of iOOTP11. I know this won't be received favorably by the die-hard fans. (I consider myself one. I've purchased every dang version.)

I beta tested the last four versions. And I agree, v12 was rushed out the door too soon.

I'm confident the bugs and such will get fixed over time and I'm fine with being an "unknowing beta tester". Maybe I'm just drinking the Kool-Aid but I'd still rather dump $30-$40 into Markus and his team's pockets for a work-in-progress than into a place like EA Sports.

That being said, I'm not playing the game again until the patch is released as the financial system tweaks are a necessity for me.

I'm just guessing, but did the league get a new National Media Contract? If you have all teams receiving an equal share of that contract, a new one at ~$25 million more than the one it replaces could bump everyone's budget at once.
Thanks for the suggestion. Is there a way to check this somewhere? If this is the case, is there a way to prevent such a huge increase?

Sorry, I'm guessing that's not what it is. The way budgets are calculated in fictional leagues after 2011 are one of the things that Markus admitted to being a tweak in this upcoming patch. I'd wait until the patch and see if that fixes things.

What time can we expect this patch to be there? Morning, afternoon, evening? CET, EDT?

If Markus follows his usual pattern, sometime in the afternoon Eastern Daylight Time.

We definitely got strung along this year, as iOOTP clearly took priority. I know I got tired of reading that beta should start next week month after month. It feels like things got rushed to hit the last possible promised pre-order release date, and we've been playing a beta for the first month. I've crashed more so far in 12 than I did in the entire 11 beta.

As long as tomorrow's patch is good, none of this bothers me at all. It's traditionally taken 2 patches to get the game to a good point. There's a lot of nice things in this release, easily worth the price tag to me. I've been critical of the financials, but they are miles better than 11. The budget fix is a pretty minor thing in the larger financial picture. Once I started ignoring team profitability and adjusted revenues down to compensate, everything plays perfectly fine. The draft issues bother me more, but again, should be a simple fix.

The one big disappointment for me has been player development. The new screen and budget are nice. The lock feature is great. The development system itself is still lacking in my book, and I had high hopes for this in 12.

What, specifically, do you wish to see added or changed in player development? Just curious.

I don't want to turn this into another third pitch or RP/SP thread, but that's a big one. Defensive development is another, as the core defensive ratings are known. There's no position mystery with your draft prospects. You know that your pick is good enough to remain at Catcher or SS, rather than running the risk of needing to move him to a less valuable position. Those are 2 crucial decisions in real baseball that are predetermined in OOTP.

At what point do the members of the community start to take responsibility? I'm just wondering why all the blame gets centered on Markus. I clearly remember thread upon thread posted about how "OOTP should be released before June 20th", "Markus is ignoring the community", blah blah blah blah. So finally thegame comes out and now many of those exact same people are complaining the game came out too soon. At what point do people here stop complaining? I'm just curious because quite frankly the only thing affecting my enjoyment of OOTP is the hypocritical community who claim to support Markus and OOTP but then spend most of their time deriding his decision to expand his customer base. Maybe I'm just one of those rare customers who will almost never complain though. Just my . /endrant

OOTP should be released before June 20th. I am sure I am not the only one that wants to play a baseball game during the baseball season (the same goes for football, basketball, hockey, etc.). IOOTP is the sole reason why the game was released when it was and it is the sole reason why the game is in the state it is in.

I have not seen any sales numbers from IOOTP (nor do I expect to). If the sales from that game were good, then taking a slight hit with OOTP 12 (if it has even happened) was probably worth it. In the end, only Markus knows if it was worth it.

95% of the people on this board share a common goal. To play and hopefully help influence the development of the best baseball text sim. We all want good things for Markus and co, we just don't always agree on how to do it. Some people prefer to praise the game no matter what and others prefer to ride Markus' butt to get what they want.

Will this mean I will no longer see Tim Lincecum ask for 53+ million dollars per year for 5 years for a total of over 265 million dollar demands anymore? I sure hope so....

I agree wholeheartedly. The amount of threads suggesting OOTP come out on the iPad and how "it would be amazing to play OOTP at work, or on the train" etc. start to get on my tits. Then it comes out and everyone whines that both versions have too many bugs.

Sick of it.

How can the complaints of others affect your enjoyment of a game? That's just silly.

No. Grown men fighting about a video game is just silly. I'd expect that kind of behavior on Bungie or Infinity Ward's message boards.
