Some problems/issues...any fixes/explanation?

Love the game to death, but a few issues have popped up into OOTP12 that have me a bit concerned. I imported my team/season from last year's game and am into the 2014 season. I have seen this briefly in other posts, but what is up with the crazy pitch counts this year? It has never happened before, my settings are the same as they always have been, and I have seen 4 instances so far in a young season with guys going for more than 150 pitches, and in one I had a guy throw 190 pitches in a single game. I don't think it is, but if this is a setting, where would this be found to tweak? Also, and I noticed this on last year's game too, why do I have a guy on 2nd with 2 outs and a single doesn't score him? I have my baserunning setting all the way up to aggressive and not only does he not score automatically, but I'm not even getting the popup option to send him if I desire. I understand that a guy will not always automatically score, but if I am aggressive with my baserunning, I should at least ALWAYS get the option to send him home if I want. Any input/answers are appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Pitch counts would be affected by "pitcher stamina" under the league strategy setup. You could turn it down to low or very low and get less guys hitting high pitch counts league wide. On your own team, you can set pitch counts for your players on their "player strategy" pages.

The second point, players will often not score from second, and you will not always get the option. It depends on ball depth, position on the field, etc. If he even has a chance to score, you would get a pop-up (and then it wouldn't be a guarantee). If you are not, you can assume the ball is already in a players hand, or even heading toward the cut-off by the time the player got to third.

Checked the league settings, stamina was already set to Low. That seems kind of strange.

I am noticing the same issue as Famer here with pitch counts. Pitch counts in the extreme numbers ( I would consider at least ) of about 140+ with no fatigue. Now, Grant I do agree with you that it should be a tweak, however, going to "very low" seems extreme. As strange as that may sound. I'm surprised no one else has caught on to this yet, or maybe they have, it's been mentioned in another thread and I haven't caught it. If so, my apologies as well.

Thanks all for the help on this topic.

It was mentioned in another thread. The op asked for "fixes" so I suggested some. Feel free to report the problem to bring it to the developers attention.

I want the old option back of being able to set a max pitch count..

I have asked since 11 came out for variables

Max_Pitch_Count_SP_Exhibition
Max_Pitch_Count_MR_Exhibition
Max_Pitch_Count_CL_Exhibition

Max_Pitch_Count_SP_Season
Max_Pitch_Count_MR_Season
Max_Pitch_Count_CL_Season

Max_Pitch_Count_SP_Post_Season
Max_Pitch_Count_MR_Post_Season
Max_Pitch_Count_CL_Post_Season

I wish I had these....

"Very Low" is not extreme if you are trying to simulate modern day MLB. I believe it is the default. So I would definitely try this. That being said, I would not expect pitch counts of 150 at "Low," more like 125 so it could be a bug of some sort.

I had the same issue, this season I did the auto calc on the league modifiers and I'm not seeing it thus far.

I honestly wonder if this isn't the culprit. The OP stated he is into 2014, with a league he imported. The game does not auto-recalc automatically past 2011. I believe that might be a problem, as the league drifts in totals without it.

BTW, I just looked at my current league (in 2002). No one in the whole league had more than a 130 pitch count in the past five games, and that was just one player who pitch a complete game shut out (20 stam.). The second highest was 128. The vast majority was at 100 pitches or fewer. I went five days and checked again. Same results, except no one was over 118 that time. So, if you are seeing it commonly, it probably is a setting problem, and I would bet doing an atuo-recalc will fix it.

Or it could be some of us aren't having issues with pitch counts. Yes, we are seeing some discussion on the subject but if it were wide spread I think we would see much "louder" and longer threads. I don't think this is an issue the typical OOTP player, at least those that post here, would miss.

FWIW my stamina setting in league setup is on "low" and I don't have the issue. League leader (17 stamina on 20 scale) in pitches thrown is averaging 119.7 per game with a high of 125. Second place (19\20 stamina) is throwing 109 per game, high of 122. Both are in the AL with the DH in use. NL leaders are a hair over 107 ppg.

My league is a converted v11 league with player creation modifiers at default 1.00. Might be worth a look in your (your = anyone having this problem) league at pitcher's stamina ratings throughout the league and also creation modifiers to make sure your pitchers aren't being created with too much endurance.

Are you playing out or simming games? If simming is the AI exhausting your bullpen to the point the AI is leaving in the starter "thinking" it has no other option? I doubt this is it as I don't see the AI having this problem, other than rarely (as it should), when playing against me.

Are relievers and closers set to "very often" in league setup?

Anyway just throwing out some ideas and at the same time letting it be known that not everyone is seeing this.

edited for spelling

Yeah, maybe. I've used autocalc from the moment I imported my v11 league and don't have the issue. You could be onto something and is certainly an easy thing for those that have it to try.

Go to Game Setup -> League Setup -> Strategy and on the right half of the screen below the checkboxes for automatically adjusting league total modifiers and control in-game engine, you'll see Starting Pitcher Stamina. This is likely set to a number much higher than 1.000 right now. Reset it to a number much closer to 1.000 and you should be good to go.

I had the same thing happen to me about 6 or 7 seasons into an OOTP11 league and it would always reset to a different number after every season. You're minor league settings are likely also set to various values, some possibly quite high or quite low. I always check these before the start of every season now. Not sure how or why it started happening but it did.

Same BIG problem for me in OOTP11, I hope it's fixed for OOTP12, if not then it needs to be patched. These numbers shouldn't change when we start a new season. Very annoying specially if you forgot to check it at the beginning of a new season.

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely look into some of the suggestions made by others and let you know what I find out. This being my second year of purchasing OOTP and in the exact same boat as Famer in terms of being in 2014 etc.., I felt it was a good time to chime in as well. I play my games out, so I'm not sure if that has or doesn't have anything to do with it, but I certainly have been given something to go on now.

Thanks,

Yard

Since doing the auto calcs.. I've seen one pitcher pitch more than 9 innings and that was Zack Greinke and his total pitch count was only 124.

Well I think I found the culprit. Went into league settings and looked at strategy and my starters pitching stamina was set at 2.000!! No wonder. I'm not sure how it got set that high, but I put it back down to 1.000 and the results seem to be in line again with what they should be.

That's identical as to what happened to me.

My MLB settings were fine, but the AAA and AA leagues had stamina ratings that varied, but all between 1.1 and 1.6. A few of the A leagues also had slightly high stamina ratings for starters (about 1.2). All reliever stamina settings were fine at all levels. No idea how this happened as I have not seen it in prior versions of OOTP.
