Super free agents going unsigned
Currently having a problem I've never had in any incarnation of OOTP before. Each season, I have some really good free agents going unsigned because no teams have money to sign them. It's not that teams aren't signing any free agents, because they are, but every season I notice on opening day there are still quite a few good players sitting around in the free agent pool unsigned.
Two seasons ago (fictional league BTW), a three time defending batting champion sat out the season because no team had money to sign him for $10 million. He then retired at age 28! This year, a guy who hit 66 (yes ) HRs last season is unsigned on opening day because he wants the whopping amount of, get this, $6 million. No team can sign him- they have no cash. I figure he will retire too (he's 29)... I might add that I am using the same financial setup that I used in OOTP11, and it worked well there. In the financial control section (Financial setup summary & projections) the average profit per team is around $3 million...) Teams ARE making money, but I'll be darned if I know where it's all going. Anybody else having situations like this? Last edited by Shinobu; 07-11-2011 at 04:50 AM. |

Well, I just disabled the player development budget (set to "0"), so that freed up $8 million for each team to used. The guy with 66 (yes
) homers last season got snapped right up...

Yeah, there hasn't been a good enough balance on the budget and the new added costs in the game. I have been noticing this as well. The very best fa (with the largest demands) aren't getting signed (at least not every year), and then retiring way to young. I don't know if doesn't need to be a league wide bump in salaries, degradation in arbitration amounts (these to be coming in much higher), and maybe a bit of a drop in demands from lower level free agents.

The financial issues have been brought up a few times and Markus addressed it in this thread. He said:
