Using custom names files

I have performed an extensive edit to the various names text files for the game and upon installing OOTP12 I simply copied these into the data folder for use. However after creating my fictional league, the names are not being used.

Is there something I need to do in addition to placing these files in the data folder and thereby overwriting the default ones?

Thank you.

Have you renamed them? Rename the original or move it and save your file with the same name as the original one had. if you've done that then I'm not sure

Yes - make sure you keep a copy of the original, either by moving it or renaming it with say, names_default.

What Joe said and, in addition (if you havn't done it), go to Game Setup and re-import the name files.

So this is the only way you can edit names. No way within the game? And you should do it after you create your league and go into the folders of that created league? And exactly what files?

An even better method is to copy the entire OOTP Baseball 12 folder and in game preferences change your custom saved games path to point to this to the copy.

Before you install any updates, change your path back to the original folder so the update doesn't overwrite your custom files then change the path back to your custom folder. When you have time, scan through the original folder to see what has changed and copy any the changed files that you want over to your custom folder.

If you go into "Commisioner" mode you can edit the names in-game anytime you wish.

I thought I had read that somewhere. Thanks much! (and you can get in and out of Commisioner mode at will, right?).
