It won't matter to online play, and anyone doing it for nefarious reasons is screwing themselves.
So I literally spent 8 hours into this morning (and I am here at 38 btw) setting up a brand new EVERYTHING, with all the lessons learned the past week, and the advice here.
Couple things.
First off in the edit league page, window, I'd love for you guys to create a drop down menu to PICK the league(s) I can have feeder leagues feed.
I've managed to create a HS, JUCO and College set of leagues that do not feed any leagues. with age limits, so my assumption, and I need to check some things, is that these guys will bubbly up as they age and get better...
Gehrig, not only were you a great pitcher, but you are an inspiring OOTP player also! Having fun watching you go through all of this and your ideas show you are a perceptive player. Now, if your mouse finger was bloody during all of this, I will be VERY impressed!

I've spent many hours setting up a league only to find that i screwed it up, historical rookies are always fun, so i go ahead and delete it only to come here and find a way i could of saved it. The joys of learning to play OOTP lol
templates are a life saver, that and multiple backups

i think my solution of doing another draft would of worked, i had a draft class of a few people once, thought i was screwed so i simmed past it without anyone being drafted so i deleted it but luckily restored a backup and tried creating my own draft class and set it for the next day and it worked so don't delete it right away, you always can later

I have had to do this myself with successful outcomes. If something happens and the draft is "removed", the game still keeps ahold of the event...or something. By going into Commish mode and adding a draft event after today's date, it will run that draft as it would have the original one.

I also second what folks say about backups. I rely on them as I am prone to messing things up. I just can't keep my fingers off the shiny buttons Before every major event I run a backup. Just remember to go into the folder with the backup file and tack something onto the back of it so it doesn't get overwritten with the next backup.

I'm with Pan on this. Back up before every major event.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Excuse my lack of technical back ground, but I have never done this and think highly that i should, When given the option for Database Back-up I see.........

Back up folder: C:\Docs and Settings\Me\MyDocs\OOTP12\backups

And 4 Options:

Select Folder
Open Folder
Copy all files
Start Backup

I will assume that to create a back up I select "Start Back Up" and will only require the others if I chose to change where I store it or have a problem.

Again, sorry if this sounds like "OOTP for Dummy's" because thats me..

You can really do any, Big T, but the easiest, simplest, guarantee of having everything the way it was at "that point in time" is to right click on your league folder in saved games, zip or rar the whole thing. The next time you do it- make sure you have settings in your compression program set to update -it'll take less time because it's only adding the files that weren't there before or are newer.

Later, if you need to restore that league, you delete or rename the old saved games league folder and extract your saved folder right into the saved games directory and you're back in business. Major events are critical, I agree with the above posts, but also after you make a lot of changes, say, picture updates or major trades, roster reorganization, etc... ANYthing you think you wouldn't want to be forced to recreate and do again.

I just go to the OOTP menu dropdown, select "backup game", and click "start backup". The game does the rest for me.

You'll do fine. It's the way I've been doing forever. Oh, and I generally back up not only to the HD, but also throw it on a flash drive just in case.

I appreciate your confidence level. I just don't share it. I'm always afraid I'll see some dreaded game-created error message that says Attempt to Restore Failed or something on that order. If it's in the game, it's vulnerable IMHO. What do they say, ymmv?

My copy of THE BOOK is getting pretty beat up from constantly referring to it, so I hear ya.

Curt, any chance that since you're resetting you could upload your setup as a quick start, so that those of us who don't have the patience to correctly set up the hs-college feeders can use them?

I manage to screw it up one way or another every time! Agggghhh

I can upload my template since it's pretty complete. Come to find out I can change leagues and feeders, I would ask that you guys implement an ability for me to pick which league I want my leagues to feed too.
Have a default hierarchy, but I would like to be able to select like I did here.
I have my leagues setup to feed properly now.
How do I upload a template, and where?

This is what I do. I use 7-Zip and zip up the whole league with the day's date as the suffix. Like Endgame I keep backups on a flash drive in case the hard drive crashes. Belt and suspenders, but better safe than sorry.

What happened?

This used to be the daily feature of the board and now it's eerily quiet.

Perhaps it has ran its course or gehrig38 is still setting up his new league.

I think he found the dynasty thread, and it looks like he will be updating us on the dynasty in there rather then in this giant of a thread..
