Online Historical League Draft Issue

Hi guys,

This is a problem with an online league but it's a historical league and I think you guys might be the best to answer it.

I run an MLB based online league that started with the 1961 season. We just finished 1971 and after our 1972 season we're going to upgrade from OOTP X to OOTP 12. Since I started the league we've had an issue with our draft classes that I've been hoping would fix itself but it hasn't.

When the game creates our draft classes it isn't importing actual draft classes. It's only importing those players who made their debut in the majors. Which means that players who never made it to the majors never appear in our league.

For example, that 1972 draft we had contained 122 players. The real 1972 MLB First Year Player Draft contained 790 players. The game created our draft class out of the players who made their MLB debut, not out of all the prospects who were drafted.

The net result to this discrepancy is that our minor league systems are never getting built up. Right now it seems to work out ok but I think it'll hurt us as we get later into the '70s and beyond. Plus I think it makes it much harder to trade as we just don't have prospects to offer each other.

The problem is I'm not sure this issue is fixable? If it is fixable, do we want to fix it? If so how do we fix it? And if it's not then what do we do? Just continue as if it's not happening?

BTW, we're also a year ahead of the correct year in our draft classes, but that's my fault. In other words in 1972 we drafted all the players who made their MLB debuts in 1973. It actually adds a bit of a historical twist so we don't mind that issue so much.

Thanks in advance...

None of the db's currently available come with full draft classes, closest approx. is the Gambo\Spritze/Gambo db's.

The Lahman that is supplied with the game is only a major league db. So a players debut is only his major league debut and that is the "draft class" he appears in.

Gambo has added professional debuts to his db. Players will appear in their real major league draft class even if was a decade before they made the bigs.

Spritze's db has players available at high school graduation. They can get drafted or go to college or wherever the winds take them.

Thanks Spritze. Can I switch the database I use for me league? Is it just a matter of changing the path to point to the new db I want to use? And is there a Gambo or Spritze db available yet for OOTP 12?

Answers = Yes, Yes and Yes

BUT keep in mind the various db's have different (earlier) player debuts than what you were using. You will likely have a gap caused by this.

Decided against my request to be notified of openings . . . thanks, though.

I guess it would even be possible for some players who are already in our league would show up again when we switched dbs?

I'll have to discuss this with my league and see what we decide to do. Thanks for the responses.

Since the debuts are always earlier you won't get duplicates, you'll just miss a few.
