The only 2 series off of the top of my head that even comes close all-time are '68 and '86. I'm not old enough to remember the '68 Tigers but those guys are legends around here. I was 6 during the '86 series so only remember bits and pieces. In '01 I was kind of torn because I loved Curt and Gracie but was kind pulling for the Yankees after 9/11. It was unreal seeing Rivera get roughed up like that because it's the first time I can ever remember it happening to him in a situation like that. That 2001 was the series that made me fall back in love with baseball.

I think 1972 gets overlooked a lot as a great series: 7 game series where every game but 1 was decided by 1-run. Reds outscored the A's overall, but the A's won.... 1986 was hands down the best Post-Season ever. TWO series where a team only needed one strike to close it out, but failed. Red Sox beneficiary of one and victim in the other. Mets-Astros series was a classic as well. |

I also agree that the 2001 WS was the most exciting Series ever. There was awesome pitching on both sides, key homers, drama in almost every game, nothing beats that Series, IMO...well, except if the Yanks had won haha! The NLDS vs. the Cards in 01 is your favorite moment, then? Who would've thunk it? But yeah, STL was loaded that year, so it figures. Guess you were part of several underdog teams that shocked the baseball world. Funny that you also were part of my 2 most painful baseball memories ever (2001 and 2004), but I can't hold anything against such a competitive, resilient guy such as yourself, Mr. Schilling. You beat my beloved Yanks fair & square. All I can do is tip my cap to you and thank you for your reply. Back to OOTP talk then... |

22 runs combined over 5 games in that '01 LDS with the Cards and only 8 of them without homerun help. I loved the D'Backs team that year (until November 4 that year that is) and the fact they won that LDS with 10 runs in 5 games in the age of homeruns was great.

The '91 WS was a great WS, too. 5 of 7 games decided in extra-innings and Kirby Puckett's performance in game 6 has got to be one of the best ever in postseason history. Best WS, IMO...till 10 yrs. later, that is

I have HS(15-17), JUCO(18-19) and NCAA(18-21) feeder leagues. I have had at least one player get drafted out of HS and not sign, go onto JUCO then get drafted and not sign, and then go on to NCAA and ended up signing as a FA. I have seen quite a few guys go HS -> JUCO -> NCAA and also HS -> NCAA. Seems to be working well but still tweaking ages. |

Another thing that would be nice to micro manage the organization/universe would be multiple short lists. Would love to make one of top HS pitching prospects, traded players, top prospects in an organization, etc. Would make following selected players much easier.

I agree. Both are my top two. Rooted for ATL in 91 and ARZ in 01

I have always wondered what a Major League Baseball pitcher thought of DIPS theory. When you get a chance would you mind making a comment on that Mr Schilling.
My thoughts are that it works in a general sense but obviously certain pitchers like yourself, Maddux, and Rivera have more control over that situation than DIPS likes to give credit for. This is fanboyish I know but I really was a huge fan of yours. You had the old school approach to pitching and would give your team a chance even when you didnt have your best stuff. Too many pitchers these days dont have their good stuff so throw up a clunker (3ips, 5er, 6hits) and hang the bullpen out. I enjoyed watching them Schilling/Maddux or whatever else great Braves pitcher you were facing at the time classics on TBS. Last edited by jbergey22; 07-02-2011 at 04:37 PM. |

True but it's nicer to hear it from him, though I never thought of that option. What would be the year to get a decent look at his abilities -- according to baseball fans after all? |

Did it! Limped into the playoffs, just playing horribly the last week with some crushing losses but so, I guess, did the Pirates. Won the WC by one game.
Problems abound though. Not the least of which is my leadoff hitter and arguably 2nd best offensive player is suspended for the first 2 games of the playoffs (btw Suspensions should carry over to the next regular season, not into the playoffs). No idea how I am going to handle this team..... In other news the O's won the AL going away at 99-63, a full 9.5 games over the Senators from Washington (who had a 1 game playoff with Detroit for th e WC) This is an offensively packed league right now, given the plethora of feeder players and the fact there are only 16 teams. As attested to by the incredible offensive output. Batting titles go to Mike White of the Yankees at 383, Garrett Harrington of the O's at .397 (thought he might pull off a .400 season with a week left.) HR titles were won with 57 in the AL and 38 in the NL, RBI titles (One which I think will last forever) were 181! in the NL (Cubs #3 hitter whom I now have to face) and 167 in the AL. ERA titles were MY GUY! at 3.47 and in the AL it was 3.68. |

You say you play out every game. Do you go pitch by pitch? by inning or what? 162 game season?
I can't imagine how long it must have taken you to play 20 seasons. I'm still deciding how I want to play. I have the time to play it play by play but just don't have the attention span. I suppose that is the only way to learn the players and their tendencies. |

This is the initial season of your sim? Of so, the first year power inflation phenomenon, which is characteristic of all previous versions of OOTP, may still be in effect. Unless you neglected to enable Recalc, which is alleged (don't own 12) to remedy the problem.

I actually like it. Kind of setting an all time bar, and shows league evolution as well. As long as it's not like 220 RBI's or 80 HR I'm cool with it.
Ya, I play game by game, usually allow offense after presetting strategies, to play each half via computer, and I pitch, hitter to hitter, not pitch to pitch for defense. Last edited by gehrig38; 07-02-2011 at 06:45 PM. |
