What do you do when your team is continuously losing?
I've simmed at-bat for the first 120ish games of the season. My team was playing .500 ball up until game 80, and now the losses just keep piling up and im 17 games behind first.
No one's producing from the plate, my pitchers are getting smacked around, and I just want to rage at my computer. What do you guys do when this happens? Sim the rest of the season? Or ride the ship right down to the bottom. Part of me wants to just sim the rest of the season, but i'm wondering if I will regret it once I do. |

I usually choose to take over a bad team so I mostly lose a lot. What I will usually do is just keep playing like a normally do and track my minors. I sim one day, look at my box score, make sure there is no injuries, etc. and then I sim another day, I usually check my minors every few days. I feel more connected to my team if I keep playing when they lose because when they start to win it is much better! Besides, no need to be in a rush, you have the whole year!

Fire the manager. And then get to work on trying to trade away the veteran dead weight and bring up the new guys from the minors and see how they work out, see if any of them I can count on for next years team. And those positions I see the new minor leaguers or who ever is there cannot fill the hole, then start to look at who might be available via trade or free agency in the coming off season.
And I have had to scrap the team a few times, bring in a bunch of young minor leaguers that I did not intend to bring up so early, and a few times they have surprised me, going on a nice run in late August and September, and what was once feared to be a disaster of a season, my club makes a run for .500

If past the deadline, then I recommend looking at some other team's players, players who contracts are going to be up after the season, and see how they may fit into your plans.
And when things go bad, and this is just my experience, when ever I think that my veterans could still help out next season, I often get burned, and they only live to disappoint me again. Fresh blood, painful and hard as it is to get in, is the route I tend to go when the team craps out. And you have the September call ups to look forward to. A great chance to try out some new arms in the bullpen, and some other guys with speed and defense. See if they can handle major league pitching.

1) Go to the free agents page 2) Go to import historical players 3) Import the following players: Babe Ruth Honus Wager Ted Williams Randy Johnson Curt Schilling (Good Republican) Willie Mays Hank Aaron Barry Bonds 4) Go to player editor and put them on your team 5) Get those bad boys in your lineup / rotation 6) win a few more games If you have any questions feel free to ask? This is not 100% guarenteed to work, but it has worked for me in the past.

I come here and complain the games not working right and the game engine cheats against human players.
![]() Disclaimer: This post is "tongue in cheek" and is not aimed at any board users. ![]() Seriously though I would play 'em all out. Like real life I would want to see my players so I could better evaluate what I have and don't have. Also Sept. call-ups would be more important than ever and seeing them play would be a must for me. Without first hand knowledge I would have a hard time making decisions for next year. |

I've just started playing and i've played through several seasons. I let the owner fire me if he gets too angry, and I've been fired once in one of my games.
I've had a couple of seasons where according to my scout (who was rated as at least "excellent" in every category) my team should be cruising to the playoffs, but instead sink in the standings and end up with a 70 win season. I've also had a season where the team should be pretty bad, but ended up winning 94 games (and missing the wildcard). I'm not criticizing the game for this unpredictability, actually I think it's one of the really interesting parts of it. Some teams look better on paper than they perform in real life, and as a GM, you try your hardest to fix the problems as they pop up (2 starting infielders and 2 starting outfielders and the #2 starter all on the DL at the same time....) with trades, call-ups and just trying to plug the holes when they appear, and pray the owner has enough patience to let you ride it out and make changes for next year! The incidence of injuries has forced me to really think about the depth that I have in the higher levels of the organization, stockpiling some almost-major-league-ready talent at the AAA level. Finally, just like in real life, you can never have enough pitching! |

I rejoice and say: "Thank goodness I've found a realistic game that I can't constantly kick the living snot out of." and then set about re-building them into a championship team. When they win I move on to help bring up the level of another down on their luck franchise. It's a challenge, and that's a good thing. When you finally do get around to winning with that team, it feels that much better, rather than taking over a winner and predictably winning with them. The struggle to get there is what makes the eventual success special. Just make sure you keep the "Cannot be fired" box checked, otherwise your owner may get impatient and fire you, and that sucks when you've put in the work at building the team. Obviously IRL, people get fired. That doesn't mean you have to.

I tend to go on a staff-wide feeding frenzy, starting with my manager. Occasionally, I'll attack a fading veteran as well.
Then, I'll send my best players away for prospects, and get last year's crop of prospects some playing time. I remember that it's just a game, and I can sim through a season, and not have to wait a year for next year. But then those prospects flame out.... Rinse and repeat. don't forget
the waiver wire and trade block. The AI is dumping players too, and you can sometimes pick up pretty useful pieces. Just be careful to read the contracts listed before doing so, I blew up my budget one year adding a contract.
Also consider (again, carefullly) trading for guys that will be Type A FA. The AI may block you with waiver claims, but then again it might not. |
