Relegation fictional league?

Anyone try to setup/manage a relegation-style league? Top 3 teams of lower leagues go up, bottom 3 teams of leagues go down. Seems kind of a pain to manage in OOTP (if it's even possible) but I am curious..

I've set up my fictional league this way. I've restarted a couple of times, as I've made a few mistakes. Here's where I'm at so far, at a high level:
  • Two sub leagues of ten teams each
  • One subleague is the Premier League; the other is the Second League
  • No interleague play
  • After the season is over, edit the league structure and change promoted/relegated teams' subleague.
  • Make up your rules to ensure the Premier League is more desirable for FAs (eg. I hand out tiered cash bonuses to every team, and the PL teams get more than the SL teams. Also the PL's media contract is larger than the SL's)
You need to regenerate your schedule after realignment, too. This is the reason I just restarted again!

I'm no expert on this, but wanted to contribute in the hopes that others will add their tips.

Do you have any kind of minor league teams that are always affiliated w/ a parent team regardless of where that parent league is?

The teams' affiliations should stick, even after you realign. I have three levels of minors for all major league (PL & SL) teams.

Also, annual draft contains both subleagues. I've made a draft lottery system in Excel to determine the order. So I have to manually set the draft order once I've held my lottery. I'd be happy share the details, but perhaps the concept is good enough for you. The important thing to remember is that this is ONE league with two subleagues; therefore there is one draft, with all 20 teams participating.

To elaborate on the minor league issue, you (obviously) need 20 teams for each level, one for each major league team. You don't need to mimic the major league structure, however. You could have one 20-team AAA league, or two 10-team leagues (I do this...a Western and an Eastern League, but it's extra setup trouble you might want to avoid)
