Thanks aces, I was really disapointed when I lost my OOTP11 dynasty but it was my own doing. I wasn't backing up at good intervals and was just simming along to fast. That won't happen with this one!

cool, I always use the Rays. Where are the Rays in your franchise? Perry seems alright, a nice pickup.
The Rays are having a pretty bad season actually, they are in 4th place in the AL East but still 8 games up on the Jays. They are a full 20 games back of the Red Sox for the division lead and 16 back of the Yankees for the wild card. It doesn't look like they will make the playoffs this year. They have been hit pretty hard with injuries, especially their rotation losing Price, Davis and Helickson all for extended periods of time. They tried to bolster their rotation by picking up J.A. Hap from the astros for 3B Josh Sale but I think they are just too far back in the race to catch up.

I'm really happy to pick up Ryan Perry, he is a big hard throwing righty with a very hard fastball. I think the Tigers gave up on him a little early as he is just 24 and his 5.40 ERA with the Tigers isn't all that bad. He is cheap and contrlable for a few more years so it is a low risk move for me.

I followed your OOTP 11 dynasty and it was great! excited for this one! I will be reading.

Thanks for following mine. I'll definately check out the progress of the Portland Generals. I enjoy reading these dynasties as much as writing one.

August Rolls in and the Blue Jays are 20 Games Under .500

August 1st, 2011

The Blue Jays started to get healthy during the month of July and they started to play much better baseball. After a terriable month of JUne that saw the team win only 4 games the Jays bounced back and would go 14-12 in July. Toronto was lead by SP Rickey Romero who had a fantastic month posting a 5-1 record with a 2.42 ERA. Unfortunately for the Jays they were unable to climb their way out of the basement in the American League East and still trail the division leading Yankees (66-23) by 21 1/2 games. Toronto's record of 44-64 puts them deadlast in the east but just 2 1/2 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays who are having a dreadfull injury filled season. Only the Cleveland Indians (39-69) have a worse record than the Blue Jays in all of Major League Baseball. The best record in the Majors belongs to the St. Louis Cardinals with a fantastic record of 70-38.

July's Hot Players

SP Rickey Romero - 5-1 2.42 ERA
SP Brett Cecil - 2-0 4.09 ERA
MR Ryan Perry - 0-0 0.00 ERA (10.1 ip)

2B Aaron Hill - .368 1 HR 2 RBI
LF Travis Snider - .299 4 HR 17 RBI

CL Jason Frasor - 1-0 1 SV 14.30 ERA

3B Brett Lawrie - .200 1 HR 3 RBI
CF Rajai Davis - .241 1 HR 7 RBI

July News & Transactions

Injuries

It wouldn't be Blue Jays baseball if the club didn't ahve to deal with more injuries during the month of July. The Jays had two players suffer injuries and both were season ending. The first injury was a major blow to the Jays top pitching prospect SP Kyle Drabek, the young right hander sufferd a partially torn UCL and it will require Tommy John Surgery. He is expected to miss the next 10-11 months. He was 2-6 with a 4.26 ERA this year and was placed on the 60 Day Disabled List. The Jays recalled SP Jesse Litsch (3-4 4.33 ERA) from AAA Las Vegas to fill his spot in the rotation.

The Jays then lost 3B Edwin Encarnacion for the next 4 months after he was hit on the hand by a fastball. He suffered a broken hand and was also placed on the 15 day disabled list. He was hitting .237 with 11 HR and 45 RBI. The Jays recalled top prospect 3B Brett Lawrie (.246 11 HR 44 RBI) and he will get the chance to finish the year as the everyday third baseman for the Jays.

The pitchers that followed for both teams were not nearly as sharp combining to give up 18 runs on 24 hits and after 9 innings the game would be tied at 9's. The game would remain tied until the bottom of the 13th inning when LF Ryan Braun (Milwauke) took a CL Neftali Feliz (Texas) 2-1 fastball into the bleachers in centerfield for the walkoff victory for the National League. LF Ryan Braun (Milwaukee) would definately be the MVP of the game after going 4-6 with a pair of HR including the game winner and 6 RBI. For the American League 2B Robinson Cano (Yankees) was almost as good going 5-6 with 3 RBI and a triple. Only RF Jose Bautista participated for the Jays as their lone representative and he was 1-2 with a walk and single.

Minor League Awards

SP Jeremy Wilson (1st round pick 18th overall in 2011) was named the Northwestern League Pitcher of the Month for the Vancouver Canadiens after posting a perfect 6-0 record with a 2.24 ERA.

Around the Majors

Milestones

DH Jim Thome of the Minnespta Twins belted his 600th career homerun in a game against the Detroit Tigers.

Contract Extensions

RF Manny Ramirez of the Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a 2 year $32,800,000 contract extension. He is hitting .303 with 25 HR and 71 RBI for the Rays this season.

2011 Major League Trade Deadline

With the Blue Jays so far out of the Playoff races in the AL East and the Wild Card there were a number of rumours flying around surrounding the Jays and possible trades. As the deadline came and went the Blue Jays did consumate a pair of transactions.

The Jays first deal was with the Texas Rangers that saw them ship a pair of relievers to Texas. The Jays agreed to send MR Casey Janssen and MR Jon Rauch to the Rangers for 23 yearold CL Neftali Feliz.

Players to Texas

MR Casey Janssen is a 29 yearold righty with an 89-90 MPH fastball. He was 5-2 with a 2.98 ERA wuith 22 BB and 72 K's for the Jays this season and was by far the teams best reliever. He is in the last year of his contract and is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

MR Jon Rauch is a 33 yearold righty who is big and imposing on the mound. He stands 6'11" and weighs in at 290 Lbs. He was 1-0 with a 2.60 ERA with 9 BB and 25 K's for the Jays. The Rangers are in the thick of a playoff race and were looking to strengthen their bullpen and have added a pair of very good arms.

Players to Toronto

CL Neftali Feliz is a 23 yearold righty who was an Allstar for the Rangers this season. He was 2-3 with 20 saves and posted a 3.32 ERA. The 6'3" 215 lb hurler has a $457,000 contract that auto renews at the end of the season. The Jays were quite happy to add a quality arm like this and GM Ryan Stewart was quite suprised he was availiable. He will step in immediately as the Jays closer.

Blue Jays- Yankees Deal

In the Jays second deadline deal they made a swap with their division rivals the New York Yankees. The Yankees are leading the AL East but are just a game up on the Red Sox. They were looking for an offensive upgrade and they found one in RF Juan Rivera. The Jays agreed to a deal with the Yankees that sends Rivera and minor league SP Justin Nicolino to the Yankees for SP Phil Hughes.

Players to New York

RF Juan Rivera is a 22 yearold right handed batter who came to the Blue Jays from the Angels in the deal that sent CF Vernon Wells to Los Angeles. he was hitting .304 with 21 HR and 50 RBI for the Jays and was second in HR and RBI behind RF Jose Bautista. He is an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the season.

SP Justin Nicolino is a 19 yearold lefty who was drafted in the 2010 first year player draft. He features an 89-90 MPH fastball and most scouts believe he will add velocity as he fills out his 6'3" 160 lb frame. He was 3-2 with a 1.09 ERA with 17 BB and 61 K for the Lansing Lugnuts in the Low A Midwestern League.

Players to Toronto

SP Phil Hughes is a 25 yearold righty with a 90-92 MPH fastball ans well as slider, change up and circle change. He is 0-3 with a 5.64 ERA with 7 BBand 15 K in AAA Scranton this year and has really battled injuries. He suffered a back injury that has limited him to just 5 starts in 2011. The Jays believe he still has the talent to be a good middle of the rotation arm and were willing to take a gamble on him. GM Ryan Stewart "Hughes is a very good pitcher who has been unlucky on the injury front. When healthy we believe he is a top of the rotation arm and we jumped at the chance to bring him on board. He is 100% healthy now and we will have him as our #4 starter at the nig league level for the rest of the 2011 season"

Depending on the month it usually takes me between 10 min and 30 min based on what I have to write about. Some times the words come much quicker than other days! I'll usually spend the most time on the draft reports as that is by far my favorite part of the game!

I have never posted a dynasty report here, I know the report you are thinking of.

You must have been ecstatic to see that you could get Perez, a huge addition for your club. What are you going to do with Francisco?

The addition of Feliz was a big one for me and a move I was rather suprised that the Rangers would make. They are in the thick of an AL West Playoff race and have had some injuries to their bullpen. I tried todeal Francisco at the deadline but was unable to make a deal that would benefit me. He is a boarderline type B free agent at the end of the season so I may hope that he can sustain that status so I'll get a compensation draft pick if he walks as a free agent at the end of the year.

Blue Jays Terriable Season Thankfully Near the End

September 1st, 2011

GM Ryan Stewart's first season as general manager of the Toronot Blue Jays has not gone the way he would have liked but there is light at the end of the tunnel as the end of the 2011 season is quickly approaching. The Jays head into September with the second worst record in the Major Leagues at 51-85, only the Cleveland Indians (50-84) have a worse record than the Blue Jays. In the American League East the Jays are firmly planted in the basement trailing the East leading New York Yankees (86-52) by 34 games and are 4 games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for 4th. In the American League Wild Card Race the Jays trail their American League East rivals the Boston Red Sox by 32 games. The good news for Jays fans is that for the first time this season the Jays went a month without having to place a player on the disabled list. Jays fans will also get a look at some of the teams prospects as the rosters expanded from 25 to 40 and the Blue Jays announced a number of callups for September.

August's Hot Players

SP Brett Cecil - 2-3 2.96 ERA
MR Octavio Dotel - 0-0 1 SV 2.40 ERA

August News & Transactions

International Signing

The Jays remained active in the International Scouting Department inking another young player that was discovered by the teams scouting department, this time in Japan. They signed 17 yearold MR Ichizo Ikeda to a minor league deal. The 5'8" 195lb righty has a very lively 92-94 MPH fastball already and the Jays scouts believe he will be able to add some velocity as he grows and fills out. He also throws a cutter and slider but neither are considered plus pitches at this point. He was assigned to the Bluefield Blue Jays and will likely spend a few seasons in the low minors.

Minor League Awards

Two Blue Jays farm hands were rewarded for their play in the month of August. In AAA Las Vegas SP Jesse Litsch went 4-2 with a 1.15 ERA and was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the month. In Low A Lansing LF Michael Crouse had a very strong month hitting .309 with 6 HR and 19 RBI for the Lugnuts and was named the Midwestern League Batter of the Month.

September Callups

With September comes the expansion of Major League Rosters from 25 man to 40 and the Jays added some much needed reinforcements to help them get through the last month of the season. The Jays called up 5 players from their AAA Las Vegas affiliate:

SP David Purcey - 1-2 6.65 ERA
SP Jo-Jo Reyes - 4-8 5.13 ERA
1B David Cooper - .308 18 HR 86 RBI

2011 Regular Season is Over - A Forgetable one for Jays Fans

October 6th, 2011

The 2011 Major League Baseball regular season is in the books and the Toronto Blue Jays under first year General Manager Ryan Stewart finished with a record of 60-102. The Jays lost 100 games for the first time since 1979 when the team was playing in just its third season. The Blue Jays finished 40 1/2 games back of the American League East Champion Boston Red Sox who needed a 1 game playoff game against the New York Yankees to determine who would take the East and who would take the American League Wild Card. The Red Sox SP John Lackey would out duel SP C.C. Sabathia in that game 2-0 and the Red Sox would take the American League East. The Jays record of 60-102 was the second worst record in the Majors this season with only the Cleveland Indians (59-103) finishing with more losses. The St. Louis Cardinals finished with the best record in baseball at 105-57 and are a favorite to take home the 2011 World Series.

International Free Agent Signings

The Jays inked another youngster that was discovered by the Jays Scouting Director Andrew Tinnish and his staff. Toronto announced that they have signed 16 yearold 2B Drees Van Poppel out of Oranjestad in Aruba. He is a 6'2" 190 lb right handed batter with a very good bat with plus power potential. He is a mess defensively and may be better suited at first but his bat should carry him for a while. He is very young and will be assigned to Bluefield for at least a few seasons.

Minor League Signing

The Jays also inked a minor league free agent 1B Bobby Borchering who was a 1st round pick 16th overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009. The 6'3" 200 lb switch hitter was released by the Diamondbacks this year after spending the entire season on the disabled list after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. He agreed to a minor league deal and will miss another 4-5 months. The Jays believe that he still has a lot of potential and at just 20 years old that Arizona may have given up on him a little prematurely.

Around the Majors

Milestones

1B Mark Texiera of the New York Yankees belted his 300th career homerun off of SP Brett Cecil of the Toronto Blue Jays.

3B Placido Polonco of the Colorado Rockies notched his 2000th career base hit a triple against the San Diego Padres.

3B Adrian Beltre of the Texas Ranger got his 2000th carrer hit a homerun in a game against the Oakland Athletics.

The Boston Red Sox are Champions of Baseball in 2011

October 28th, 2011

The Boston Red Sox who needed a 1 game playoff to capture the American League East title away from the New York Yankees have defeated the Colorado Rockies in 5 games to take home the 2011 World Series Title. The red Sox easily handled the Minnesota Twins in the American League Division Series taking the series 3 games to 1. They then had to face their division rivals the New York Yankees whom they defeated in a 1 game playoff and it was a hard fought series that lasted 7 games but in the end they managed to edge the Yankees 7-3 in game 7 to advance to the World Series. In the World Series they would face the Colorado Rockies who suprised everyone by defeating the St. Louis Cardinals who had the best record in baseball in 4 straight games to advance to the World Series. In the World Series the red Sox simply dominated takking the series easily in just 5 games 4-1. The Red Sox have a very strong team and look like they will be competitors for the World Series for years to come.

Retirements

Two big name players announced that the 2011 season would be their last as C Jason Varitek and CL Mariano Rivera both announced that they will be retiring. C Jason Varitek spent the 2011 season with the Seattle Mariners but was reduced to a reserve roll only getting 22 atbats and hitting .182. He retires with a career line of 1264 hits 182 HR and 723 RBI.

CL Mariano Rivera is a sure fire first ballot hall of famer. He spent his entire career with the Yankees. The 41 yearold was 6-3 with 49 Saves and a 2.49 ERA this season and looked like he still had plenty left in the tank but elected to hang em up. He retires with 608 career saves which is #1 all time and an ERA of 2.24 with 1153 career strikeouts. He is a 12 time allstar and perhaps the best closer ever to play the game.

I quick sim all my games 1 day at a time. If there is an important pitching matchup or one of my top prospects first game I'll play out the game but that doesn't happen very often. I go month by month and I keep a notebook that I write the various transactions in for my updates. The feeder leagues I had to enter by hand, so I did 134 (I believe) NCAA Division 1 baseball programs and then 120 USHSBA fictional teams. Its a lot of work but well worth it!

Yup mis typed there that should be 1153 career strikeouts, thanks for catching it! I changed it in the main post.

Contract Extensions, Salary Arbitration, Free Agents and New Budget - Busy Few Days for the Blue Jays

November 17th, 2011

With the Boston Red Sox capturing the 2011 World Series Title the 2011 season has officially come to a close and GM Ryan Stewart will head into his first offseason at the helm of the Blue Jays. The Jays were very busy over the last few weeks as they had to deal with salary arbitration and pending free agents. This offseason should be a very active one for the Jays as they look to rebuild a team that finished second last in the majors in 2011.

Contract Extensions

GM Ryan Stewart was pleased to announce that the club has avoided arbitration and agreed to a 3 year contract extension with SP Phil Hughes. The 25 yearold righty was aquired from the Yankees at the trade deadline for RF Juan Rivera and was 3-5 with a 3.68 ERA with 28 BB and 60 K's for the Jays. He agreed to an extension that will pay him $15,030,000 ($5,010,000/year) over the life of the contract and will keep him in a Jays uniform until the end of the 2014 season. Hughes would have been eligiable for salary arbitration had he not signed the extension.

Salary Arbitration

With the signing of SP Phil Hughes the Jays were left with just 4 players who they would head to arbitration with. SP Jesse Litsch, SP Brandon Morrow, MR Carlos Villaneuva and MR Ryan Perry. All 4 players had their cases heard and were awarded 1 year contracts for the following amounts:

SP Jesse Litsch - $841,455
SP Brandon Morrow - $2,300,000
MR Carlos Villanueva - $4,200,000
MR Ryan Perry - $621,000

Free Agents

The Jays also had a number of players file for free agency as MR Shawn Camp, CL Frank Francisco, CL Jason Frasor, 2B John MacDonald, 3B Jason Nix and LF Scott Podsednik were all granted free agency. Of the players only MR Shawn Camp qualified for compensation as a Type B player. He was offered Salary Arbitration and declined meaning that the Jays will receive a supplemental round selection in the 2012 First Year Player Draft should he sign with another team.

New Budget

Rogers Communications Inc, the parent company of the Toronto Blue Jays has announced that they have set the Blue Jays 2012 Operating Budget at $98,160,000. The Blue Jays current payroll stands at just over $72,000,000 meaning they have approximately $26,000,000 availiable for free agents, extensions, the player development budget and scouting. GM Ryan Stewart "Our budget gives us some flexiability in what we want to do. We are going to pour a lot of our funds into the scouting and player development departments as we believe that is the key to building a sustainiable organization. I wouldn't expect us top be major players in the free agent market this season, there are some big names availiable in 1B Albert Pujols, 1B Prince Fielder, SS Jimmy Rollins and 1B Adrian Gonzalez but they don't seem like a good fit for the Jays at this point"

2011 Blue Jays Minor League Players of the Year

December 3rd, 2011

Every year the Toronto Blue Jays hand out an award to a player at each level of their minor league system for their performance during the season. This award is called the R Howard Webster Award and it is designed to honour the most valuable player at each level of the minors. This years award winners were:

AAA Las Vegas 51's (56-86 Last in the South Division)

1B David Cooper
Age: 24 Bats: LHB
Aquired: Drafted by the Jays in the 1st Round of the 2008 Draft
2011 Stats: .304 19 HR 91 RBI
GM's Comments: Cooper took a big step forward in 2011 leading the 51's in most offensive categories. The Jays would like him to hit for a little bit more power and would like to have him in the 25-30 homerun range. He was a 2011 Pacific Coast League Allstar and will get a chance to make the big club out of Spring Training this coming season.

AA New Hampshire Fishercats (66-76 6th in the Northern Division)

SS Adeiny Hechavarria
Age: 23 Bats: RHB
Aquired: Signed by the Jays as a non-drafted international free agant in 2010.
2011 Stats: .288 21 HR 92 RBI
GM's Comments: The 22 yearold showed tremendous power in his first full season of pro ball in North America belting 21 homeruns. He is tremendous defensively and has gold glove written all over him. If he can continue this pace with the bat he may be up in the Majors very quickly. He will be invited to Spring Training with the Jays this year but is most likely going to spend the 2012 season in AAA Las Vegas. He could make his Major League debut with the Jays as early as this coming season.

Advanced A Dunedin Blue Jays (62-78 5th in the North Division)

SP Chad Beck
Age: 26 Throws: RHP Velocity: 89-90 MPH
Aquired:
2011 Stats: 14-7 3.38 ERA 77 BB 140 K
GM's Comments: The 26 yearold Beck dominated against much younger competition this season in the Florida State League. He was the Blue Jays #1 starter and lead the team in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched. His fastball is not hard at just 90 MPH and he doesn't have the greatest secondary stuff. He really doesn't factor much into the Jays plans as a starter but could be a useful reliever. He is headed to AAA Las Vegas to start the 2012 season where he will face older competition for the first time.

Low A Lansing Lugnuts (79-61 2nd in the Eastern Division)

SP Deck McGuire
Age: 22 Throws: RHP Velocity: 91-93 MPH
Aquired: Drafted by the Jays in the 1st Round 11th Overall in 2010 (Georgia Tech, NCAA)
2011 Stats: 15-8 3.22 ERA 59 BB 176 K
GM's Comments: The former 1st Round Pick of the Jays had a tremendous first full pro season leading the Lugnuts in most pitching categories. He was named the 2011 Midwestern League Pitcher of the Year and was a Midwestern League Allstar. The Jays see him as a middle of the rotation pitcher but he is showing that he may be able to exceed those predictions. He will get an invite to spring training with the Jays this year and will then be headed to AA New Hampshire to start the 2012 season. He could be in a Jays uniform as early as 2013.

Short Season A Vancouver (41-36 1st in the West Division)

SP Jeremy Wilson
Age: 22 Throws: RHP Velocity: 97-99 MPH
Aquired: Drafted by the Jays in the 1st Round 18th Overall in 2011 (UAB, NCAA)
2011 Stats: 8-1 2.30 ERA 13 BB 101 K
GM's Comments: The Jays first round pick this past draft signed quickly and made his debut in the short season A circuit. The hard throwing righty was dominant leading the Northwestern league in wins and strikeouts. He was named to the 2011 NWL Allstar Team and was named the 2011 NWL Pitcher of the Year. He will be headed to Advanced A Dunedin for the 2012 season as the Jays woud like to challeng him a bit and will have him skip the Midwestern League. He has top of the rotation potential and is proving to be a very good pick for the Jays at #18 overall.

GCL Dunedin Blue Jays (26-34 5th in the North Division)

SP Angel Hernandez
Age: 21 Throws: RHP Velocity: 87-89 MPH
Aquired: 32nd Round Pick 984th Overall in 2012 (Oklahoma State University, NCAA)
2011 Stats: 5-4 3.72 ERA 27 BB 101 K
GM's Comments: Hernandez was one of the last players selected in the 2011 draft and he came out of nowhere to be the best starter for the GCL Blue Jays this season. He doesn't throw overly hard but has very good command and control and still gets a lot of strikeouts because of good secondary stuff. He will be headed to Low A Lansing of the Midwestern League for the 2012 season.

Bluefield Blue Jays (24-44 4th in the East Division)

3B Gabriel Cenas
Age: 18 Bats: RHB
Aquired:
2011 Stats: .233 11 HR 37 RBI
GM's Comments: Cenas is known more for his glove than his bat but he swung a good one this year in Bluefield belting a team leading 11 homeruns. He tends to strikeout a lot and doesn't really walk much so his average tends to suffer a bit. He is still very young and raw and will likely need a few more seasons in Rookie Ball before the Jays can determine what they have in him.

2011 Free Agent Class a Good One - 3 International Free Agents File

December 4th, 2011

The 2011 Major League free agent class is a star studded one that includes two of the game spremier sluggers in 1B Albert Pujols, the reigning National League MVP and 1B Prince Fielder a 2011 National League All Star. The class also includes big names like SS Jimmy Rollins, SP Brandon Webb, 1B Adrian Gonzalez, CL Heath Bell and CL Jonathan Papelbon.

This years free agent class will also see the addition of three players from various International League enter the mix. The first is CL Judite Soalhes a 28 yearold lefty from Venezuela. He features a 92-94 MPH fastball and a very sharp slider. He isprobably not going to stick as a closer at the MLB level but he could be a very good back of the pen/late inning arm. He is rumoured to be looking for a $1,000,000 contract.

SP Juan Miranda is a 36 yearold lefty out of Puerto Rico who features a 89-90 MPH fastball as well as a slider, changeup and splitter. He doesn't throw nearly as hard as he use to and is the oldest of the pitchers coming over this year. He has the potential to be a middle to back end of the rotation arm and could be a good pickup for a team who is looking to contend and not shellout a long term contract. He is looking for a $2,000,000 contract.

Finally, SP Nobuatsu Maruyama is a 26 yearold lefty out of Japan who features a 92-94 MPH fastball as well as a slider, curveball and forkball. He is not a polished product like Miranda but is much younger and has a higher ceiling. He projects as a possible #2 or #3 starter in the majors but could take a few seasons of refinement to get there. He is rumoured to be looking for a $950,000 contract and the Blue Jays, Yankees and Angels reportadely have strong interest in the lefty.

Blue Jays Offseason Report - Rule V, Signings and Trades

March 1st, 2012

GM Ryan Stewart has just completed his first offseason with the Jays and it was a relatively quiet one. The Jays made a few minor moves but nothing earth shattering. With a very deep free agent class that included a pair of sluggers in 1B Albert Pujols and 1B Prince Fielder many fans wanted the Jays to bring one of them north of the boarder. That would not materialize and they two sluggers would end up signing for huge dollars elsewhere. GM Ryan Stewart "We made inquiries into some of the bigger name free agents, we wouldn't be doing our job if we didn't, but this is just not the time for us to be inking anyone to a big contract like that. We want to establish our core group of players and then add to it with FA's when we are ready to compete. We have only had 1 year and have not established the level of talent in the minors and on the roster that we need"

Rule V Draft

The Jays would select second in the Rule V draft behind the Cleveland Indians and they would use their pick to select 20 yearold SP Julio Tehran from the Texas Rangers. Tehran is a 6'2" 165 lb righty with a 96-98 MPH fastball and a decent curve and changeup. In 2011 he was 7-11 with a 3.93 ERA with 91 BB and 182 K's for AA Mississippi. The Jays feel that hs could be at minimum a middle of the rotation arm. He will have to remain on the Jays 25 man roster all season and will likely be the Jays #5 starter or work out of the bullpen this year.

Tehran was the Jays only selection in the Rule V Draft and they did not lose anyone to any of the other teams.

Free Agent Signings

GM Ryan Stewart missed out on the top tier of free agents this offseason but that didn't mean the Jays wouldn't be active on the free agent market. The club came to terms on contracts with a pair of players. The first was 26 yearold SP Nobuatsu Maruyama an International Free Agent out of Japan. He agreed to a 1 year $1,600,000 contract and will be headed to Spring Training with the Jays looking to start the season in Jays starting rotation. He has a 92-94 MPH fastball with very good control and at just $1,600,000 is a great gamble for the Jays to take. If he pans out his ultimate ceiling is that of a #2 or 3 starter.

The Jays also made another minor signing inking 27 yearold CL Osiris Matos to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Matos spent the 2011 season in AA Richmond in the San Francisco Giants system where he was 3-3 with 23 SV and a 3.45 ERA with 22 BB and 64 K's. He features a 90-92 MPH fastball and was inked to give the Jays some depth and competition in their bullpen.

Trade

The Jays would make a single deal this offseason and it was consumated with the Washington Nationals. The Nationals contaced the Jays about the availiability of SP Sean O'Sullivan and after some quick negotiations he was headed to Washington. In return the Jays picked up MR Drew Soren and added another young arm to their bullpen.

Players to Washington

SP Sean O'Sullivan is a 24 yearold righty who the Jays claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Royals in 2011. He was suppose to be used as AAA Depth but was called up quickly due to injuries. He went 6-10 with a 5.09 ERA with 35 BB and 60 K's for the Jays last season.

Players to Toronto

The Jays are extatic to pick up 24 yearold MR Drew Soren. The righty features a 93-95 MPH fastball as well as 3 other very good pitches. He was 5-3 with 1 SV and a 5.94 ERA with 57 BB and 92 K's for the Nationals in 100 innings last season. The Jays don't believe he has reached his potential yet and see him as a future 8th inning setup guy and a perfet compliment to CL Neftali Feliz. He will need to cut down on his walks this season but he should be a key component of the Jays bullpen moving forward.

International Free Agent Signing

The Blue Jays scouting staff continues to be very agressive in their pursuit of young international talent under the direction of the Jays Director of Scouting Andrew Tinnish. The Jays would ink three youngsters to help give the Jays some more talent in the lower levels of the minors. The Jays signed:

CL Francisco Rivera (17, LHP, V: 93-95 MPH) Columbia, Minor League Deal
MR Javier Martinez (16, RHP, V: 87-89 MPH) Panama, Minor League Deal
SS Juan Colon (17, RHB), Venezuela, Minor League Deal

2011 Major League Free Agent Signings

1B Prince Fielder - 6 years $117,400,000 with Chicago Cubs
1B Albert Pujols - 4 years $88,000,000 with the Red Sox
SP Brandon Webb - 4 years $36,700,000 with Baltimore
SP Vincente Padilla - 2 years $8,890,000 with Washington
SP Erik Bedard - 5 years $35,200,000 with the Yankees
SS Jimmy Rollins - 5 years $65,000,000 with St. Louis
1B Carlos Pena - 2 years $14,400,000 with Seattle
1B Adrian Gonzalez - 2 years $40,000,000 with the Mets
RF Magglio Ordonez - $ 2 years $14,800,000 with San Francisco
CL Jonathan Broxton - 1 year $7,900,000 with Boston
CL Heath Bell - 3 years $29,100,000 with Boston
RF Carlos Beltran - 3 years $25,800,000 with the Yankees
LF Milton Bradley - 4 years $24,800,000 with the Yankees
SP Rich Harden - 4 years $29,600,000 with the Angels
CL Jonathan Papelbon - 3 years $26,000,000 with Boston
MR Frank Francisco - 3 years $9,960,000 with Boston
CL Kerry Wood - 3 years $9,600,000 with the Angels
MR Shawn Camp - 1 year $2,760,000 with the Dodgers*

*The Jays will receive a selection in the supplemental round of the 2011 draft for MR Shawn Camp.

Holy crap, Boston's bullpen is going to be made up entirely of closers!

Bell, Papelbon and Broxton? I would assume they still have Jenks too? Francisco has closed (though he sucks) and Bard is a closer in waiting.

Not to mention they signed Pujols.

Anyway, keep up the good work, enjoying reading.

Thanks Zukes, I'm glad you are enjoying it!

Boston's bullpen is easily the best in the Majors and by far the most expensive. As of opening day this is their pen:

MR Frank Francisco ($3,320,000)
MR Bobby Jenks ($6,000,000)
MR Dan Wheeler ($3,600,000)
MR Jonathan Broxton ($5,400,000)
MR Jonathan Papelbon ($5,400,000)
MR Daniel Bard ($415,000)
CL Heath Bell ($9,700,000)

Total bullpen salary to start 2012 is $33,835,000. That is almost half of my entire payroll!
