Hot and cold, stealing, other stuff
1) If a player is marked as being hot or cold, do they actually play better, or is that just telling me that that player is on a streak? Will someone stop being cold if you bench them for a while, or do they just have to play through it?
2) Is there some way to tell my baserunner to steal if he thinks it's a good idea but allow the batter to swing at the pitch? It seems like I can either do "Run and Hit" which makes him go no matter what and get thrown out way more than I'd expect, or I can do "Steal" and the batter isn't allowed to swing. 3) I assume a player will develop faster if he's playing every day in AAA instead of in the majors on the bench, right? 4) When the computer is considering a trade, does it look at the player's stats that year or just their current/potential ratings? 5) Do players automatically hit worse when pinch-hitting? Is there a hidden attribute for that? Last edited by mjlewis; 06-26-2011 at 03:18 AM. |

1) That marking just lets you know they're hitting well or poorly lately. I rarely pay attention to it because you can figure out whose hot or cold on your own just by checking the stats. I have rested guys who are cold and sometimes the symbol disappears, but it usually disappears after they get few hits. 2) I get thrown out on hit and runs often myself when the batter swings and misses, so I can't offer much help here. 3) Players definitely develop faster when they're playing in AAA. I've had guys on my bench in the majors and their ratings actually decrease. 4) Under the trade settings you can select favor prospects, and I believe that would cause the AI to consider potential. As for the other part, I also think it depends on what you set the AI's considerations to, such as how heavily they rely on ratings/this years stats/two years ago..etc. It's under the game setup screen. 5) I am guessing at this one, but I believe clutch rating determines pinch hitting ability. But also obviously lefty vs lefty, righty/lefty stats are important too. |

Hit and run - the runner goes after making sure the pitcher has thrown to the plate, the batter is obligated to swing at the pitch. If the batter misses the pitch the runner is usually a dead duck.
Run and hit - the runner is obligated to run and the batter can swing or not as he sees fit. The runner has a better chance to steal the base but can get picked off easier (in the real world at least). Steal - The runner goes if he thinks he can get a jump and the batter is obligated to take the pitch. |
