What does *bump* mean?

Ok so I am a newbie but I doubt I am the only one who as ever asked or the only one here who does not know so I will be the one to put it on the line and look like a fool. When people type *bump* what does it mean?

I forgot to mention ... a "bump" is also a cheap way to pad your post totals.
