We have had posts in the past wondering if any big leaguers played. It's funny because if I would have had to guess one guy who'd play OOTP, it would have been Curt Schilling. Very cool thread.

I really agree with you. The last 2 years, seeing some pitchers have special seasons is awesome.

I agree 100 percent here. I'm 30 even I miss the time of my YOUTH where I knew teams like the Cardinals loved to run and play small ball and teams like the Brewers were swining from their heels everytime up. I love the "clash of philosophies" as you said.

Funny you should say that. I played Earl Weaver Baseball back in the day (late 80s, early 90s) and the game came with two teams: AL 1900-30 and NL 1900-30. Those teams were STACKED: it used Lajoie's 1901 season where he hit .426, Ruth and Gehrig's 1927 year, it had Cobb with a .408 average, etc... And I always wished that MLB had guys like that, since McGriff would lead the league in HRs with 36 or 37.

We ended up getting that in the Steroid Era (Sosa hit 60+ for three straight years!) and it totally cheapened everything. Now I just want one or two guys to hit 50 or even just get close. I got what I wished for and didn't want it.

Well, the offenses are in decline, but they haven't yet begun to compensate for the fewer homers buy upping the running game. I hope it won't be long before we have COMPLETE offenses again, rather than the station to station ball. When you are playing computer games and Strat leagues, the stats are all that really matter, but when you go out to the ballpark and all the results are either a walk, strikeout, or a homerun, it's pretty boring.

I play mostly fictional and I use my own custom PCMs and I export all the rosters every season and run them through some custom spreadsheets that do a lot of ratings manipulation.

Try being a Braves fan. They teased us early in the decade with a couple of good years, then fell apart. Still, some of my favorite players were on those horrible teams, and the big busts are a regular part of my friends vocabulary. (You can't say "error" without saying Andres Tomas. Brad Komminsk is the catch word for any over-hyped player that then fails completely to make it). Ah, the 80's.

I drafted Brad Komminsk in a keeper Roto league back then! Held on to him too for quite a while. Also drafted Mike Stenhouse and Jeff Ledbetter.....

Rafael Ramirez began the Braves' tradition of Shortstops who lead the league in errors....

But Dale Murphy is my favorite player of all time (even though I have never been a Braves fan or a Mormon). And I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Bob Horner (right next to the soft spot for Billy Carter). To this day, I think Horner was one of the most naturally gifted hitters who ever lived.....

Edit: I almost forgot the Big Tub of Goo!....

Yep to you and QD. Truly one of those "Oh what might have been" stories that you sometimes see in sports.

Just wanted to report that the bug with feeder league players accruing major league service time has definitely been fixed in the upcoming patch.

The patch won't erase service time already applied, but they won't be getting anymore.

(See my post earlier in this thread on how to erase it easily).

Just an FYI, Dale was, and still is a better person than he was a player, and imo he WAS a Hall of Famer when you take in the off the field guy. I remember him as an MVP CF in Atlanta when TBS started up....

I remain good friends to this day with him.

Edit: And I will tell you my funny Bob Horner stories at some point, one involved drinking, well actually both do.

I think it is so great and such a value to the game to have this thread and to be able to read what a pitching genius such as Curt has to say. Maybe his thoughts and opinions can really help turn feeder leagues into what they should be. Markus, are you listening???

I do believe in one of the last versions high school players could graduate and go to college if not drafted. I could swear that was a feature.

Also, I don't think I've ever seen a pitcher in OOTP go out and gut it out for all its worth with a bloody sock. You my friend, were a true warrior and thank you for what you meant to the game of baseball. (This coming from a die hard Yankee fan, hope this shows you that there may be 1 or 2 Yankee fans out there that are decent)

First story.
Took all the rookies in Spring Training to dinner for Mexican food and proceeded to drink at least 205 Corona's during dinner. He was hilarious. He had just returned from Japan and was in spring training with the Orioles, think it was 89. He told about 200 stories and every one of them was hysterical, he was that guy that could make a non-funny story, funny.

Next story. The next day we had 1st day 'physicals'. Part of the physical was everyone had to run around the 4 fields of the complex. You had to do this for 20 minutes if I remember right, and had to complete at least 2 miles in the 20 minutes.

Horner was a no show

He comes the next day, it's smoking hot, and puts on a mizuno heart attack top, the kind you wore to get hot fast and sweat.

He now has to run by himself.

Starts running, as he's completing the first lap he runs straight off the fields, into the clubhouse, to his locker, to his car, and drives off......

Shows up the next day, and tells this story.

"I got home and went to sleep at like 6pm. I was exhausted, slept through the night but once, I woke up, had to crap, I was so tired I crapped in bed, kicked it out and went back to sleep"

Bob Horner ladies and gentleman.
