As it turns out I misread and he's only a senior this season.

He's got 8-7-7 potentials (on 2-8 scale) with an 8 curveball and a 7 sinker. He's 28-0 with a 0.86 career ERA and a 0.67 WHIP and 425 strikeouts against only 42 walks in 271.1 career innings. But only two pitches.

re: correct feeder teams

when my league started (version OOTP 2007), we went with the following:

12 teams

2 feeder leagues (HS & COL) of 12 teams each

15-round draft

going by the posted equation, we should've gone with 30 feeder teams (12*15=180...then divided by 6)

after simming several sample leagues for 200 seasons, the record book was excellent. records were set at all points across time, both offensively and defensively. the average ERA ebbed and flowed nicely.

in other words - the league stability across time was excellent with our settings, even though the feeder teams are 24 instead of the estimated requirement of 30. so it appears as though there is some significant wiggle room here.

I wish this were not the case. I like to simulate some background and like having a time period where there is no draft, but still have feeder leagues to populate the majors. Guess that is not doable. At least I have not figured out how yet.

The major problem here is there is no correct answer. I have went to Markus with this problem year after year, and the answer I got was not satisfying as he told me to fool with it till I found something satisfying. I was disapointed, I had really hoped there would be an answer so the amount of talent would match the league correctly.

If you come up with anything, please feel free to share.

I really "Like" the idea of feeder leagues in theory, but something always seems to go wrong with them. Or they slow everything down. I looked around for the bug about service time, but did not see any threads on it. Anyone got a link?

I would totally not use them if the generated players had more than 1 year of stats, and I like to look and see injury histories and stuff.......

I like the idea someone else came up with that I read on this board last year. Have agents in the game. You get a list of all the players the agent represents and if you have a bad relationship with a certain agent it's much harder to sign one of his players.

On the flip side if your good to an agents player he may give you a discount on one of his other players, etc.

Just a thought.

I used to love feeder leagues but now I don't even bother. Just a waste of space.

Well, there are ways to do just about anything, if you are willing to put in the sweat.

As far as players not signing in the draft not doing anything until the next draft, that's the way it is in real life. No team in Organized Ball can sign a player if another team has his draft rights. I remember JD Drew went and played a year in the Northern League when he didn't sign with Philly, but that is an independent league (and probably not as competitive as the SEC) and thus outside the jurisdiction of the Commissioner. I think it would be cool to allow such things, but 1) it would be probably a lot more effort to code than it's worth and 2) is really irrelevant, because no one can use the Northern League to leverage a better contract from MLB. Drew's justification was to just keep his skills sharp, not to try and threaten Philly that he was going to make a career in Minnesota.

So, in real life, MLB will tell you that they like to draft college seniors because they are closer to the majors and they have to spend less development money on them, but the real reason is that a College Senior has no real option except to sign or sit on his butt.

While that is 100% true for solo leagues its 100% false for online leagues. If a feature like this was added it would be GREAT!!!!

Save the file as a .csv file and re-import. The files are exported as text files, but you can import .csv files.

Edit: Of course, as soon as you re-import and begin playing, the service time will begin to accrue again, so pick the best time to do it for your league in relation to your draft and just be sure to do it each season until this is fixed.
Looking over the game setup screen I see "Erase service time of all players"
My feeders are simply named
"US High School"
and
"NCAA College Baseball"

My question is why can't we simply select one of those leagues in the upper right corner and then press "Erase service time of all players"?

I know some of these functions work only for the selected league. Are we sure "Erase service time of all players" works across our entire baseball world? Is it possible it only works for the selected league in the upper right corner?

I looked over the v11 manual and couldn't find an answer to this question. If you know for sure it erases "all" league's service time I'll take your word for it. If not, I may take the time to test it in a "copy" of my league.

Thanks.

I don't know about a link to a thread; it's just a bug right now that feeder league players are accumulating major league service. Not much to talk about; just have to wait for it to get fixed.

When feeder leagues first were introduced, I passed, thinking them a waste of effort. But since then I have become enamored with my High School (80 teams) and College (40 teams) teams. It is just so cool to me that I am familiar with all the players in my drafts now, having followed them for four years (at least). And my drafts seem to make more sense to me now that I am drafting guys that were High Scool All-Stars and All-SEC players rather than guys who 30 days ago didn't exist. I have my alma mater as one of the High School teams (though they always stink in real life) and it is just fun for me to follow them and hope they produce somebody worth drafting.

Oh, well. It was a good idea, but it seems that it erases EVERYONE's Service time, no matter what league you have selected.

This. This is exactly why I did it. I had a kid come out of a HS program I named after my sons high school In 120 team HS league they lost in the National Championship , he thought that was cool

I am debating on the year to start my league. I am assuming if I pick a year to base stats on I need to pick the next year as each season progresses? Or does the game move year to year on it's own?

Starting with a 16 team 2 8 team division MLB, and going to sim 5 years or so before picking up the Sox. I figure the talent level will be high with so many schools feeding, but that will even out as the league grows. Deciding on minor leagues as well, as in the early days teams had 10-15 minor league teams, and I do like micro managing...

In league setup, under the options tab = "Automatically adjust league strategy"

Another question, maybe not as much a question as I think I know the answer. If I do setup a JUCO league, there's no way to make it so players can only play 2 years and have to move on is there?
Like to have my JUCO kids have to go to college or sign....

Something else I just thought of. I'd love to be able to have my HS, JUCO and College schedules like the real ones. Would cut down on the number of players as I'd be playing 3-5 games at most a week, for colleges I could go with 3-4 man staffs, HS could be 3 as well. Pitches pitching twice a week would limit the starters needed, thus the starters created.

The more I type the more this feeder league stuff becomes its own game.....

I hope you get your answer because I actually have this same problem. Being new to the game, I only want to run a high school league and not worry about anything outside of that, just to get used to the game. I have it set up to have the Min. age at 14 and the Max at 18.

My problem is, How do I get them to leave after 4 years or when they are 18 ? I don't want to create another league above my league but if that is the only way, then I suppose I will do that.
