Have you ever seen a no-hitter live? (in person or on tv)

I saw Verlander's first gem on the tube as it happened. Will never forget it.

If you haven't seen one and want to, you should watch Mariners games. Below average to slightly above average pitchers have had the M's batters no hit through the first part of the game many many times this year. And anyone on the Seattle pitching staff is capable of turning one in as well. A few days ago it took a Felix Hernandez single to break up the no-hitter Ricky Nolasco of the Marlins had started. The next day, Chris Volstad had one going into 5 2/3 innings.

Over the past 4 games the Mariners pitchers have an ERA of 1.49, and they've won 1 of those games. They gave up just 27 hits over 42 2/3 innings with Felix Hernandez allowing 2 in a 9 inning start.

M's team batting avg is .228 (bottom of the league). They average only 7.5 hits per game.

Wonder what the odds are of a no-no during a Mariners game for the rest of the year?

I watched Clay Bucholtz's no hitter on TV and went to bed in the 8th inning, without even realizing a no-hitter was in progress!!

Fortunately for me, I had it TiVo'ed, so I watched the last two innings that I had missed.

Was at Mill. watched Big Z's No-Hitter,live in Chicago suburb's.Some really weird circumstances to have been there (box seats) Problem I cannot stand him.

I've never seen a no-hitter in person at the game, but I watched Randy Johnson's perfect game on television. As a Braves fan, it was most disappointing.

Never in person but I watched Randy Johnson's no-no from the first pitch to the last. I also saw Kerry Wood's 20k performance from first pitch to last.

Seen three, all on TV. Nolan Ryan's 7th against the Jays in 1991. Halladay's perfecto in Florida, and Verlander's gem against the Jays this year.

Seen 2 or 3 1 hitters at the stadium.

Saw Tommy Greene and Terry Mulholland throw theirs on TV. And Halladay's playoff gem via a live stream. That's it though, I think.

I haven't seen any at all, but I feel this is a place to bring up something sort of crazy that I remembered from a little while back.

Last year, before Halladay's perfect game, there was a gameday thread made on the ESPN forum. The first reply to the topic was a member saying '27 outs to go'. Next reply was the same guy, saying '24 outs to go', and so on until he got to 12 and people took notice, and it got pretty crazy when Halladay actually ended up with the perfecto. It was pretty funny.

I saw Bill Monbouquette's no no back in the early 60s at old Comisky Park.

Saw several others on TV over the years.

I think that's much better than "tuning in" after you already know its going. Forgot to mention that...you have to have been watching it before it was imminent. Especially nowadays with all the 'net commo we have.

That's awesome. Really. You got some extra obstacles in the minors...

3. More batters who don't know the weight of it so who are just out there hacking and trying to prove themselves.
2. Being overmatched by rehab players from the majors....or just vets who have no spot on the MLB team.
1. Less people watching. So less people get to witness it.

Me too.

The Astros looked like a pee-wee team out there against him. His curve ball was the nastiest I've ever seen. Great Game.

I remember watching the Astros 5 pitcher no-hitter against the Yankees on television. I remember thinking, "5 pitchers? And the Yankees didn't get a hit? Really?!"

I have not, but my dad and some of his friends sneaked into Dodger Stadium and just happened to see a Sandy Koufax no-hitter. I don't advocate sneaking into stadiums, but that's pretty awesome timing.

Nice one. That reminds me of an old colleague (since deceased) and friend, who skipped school in April 1946 with a friend to watch Jackie Robinson debut with the Montreal Royals. They were 12 at the time and got busted because the Montreal Gazette put a picture of them in the sports section.

The same guy saw Don Larson's perfect game in the 1956 WS.
