Hi,
I'm interested in joining an online league and have a couple of questions: 1) There is a requirement in lots of leagues to have an AIM account. What is it for? Are there activities that place on-line/real-time? 2) All I have at the moment is dialup (56k modem) at home and high speed at work. Will I able to be able to do any league stuff with a dial-up? I miss having a fantasy baseball team this year. I had one last year that won the league but because I was traveling most of April, I didn't sign up for one. Thanks, Eric ps. I do own the game! |

I run a league and have only a dial up modem so you should have no problem being in a league with that kind of connection.
Two alot of leagues use AIM for live drafts, the NML does, also alot of trades are negoiated using AIM, it beats emailing back and forth.

1. AIM is a instant message program. Many leagues use it as their default client. People can contact you, you can contact them. You may also set blocks to those who are not in leagues to those who are
2. Modem speed doesn't make any difference in a online league.

As said before, AIM is an instant messenger service that allows league members to talk trade. In addition, most leagues have several live events during the season. In most cases, these aren't mandatory, but it's still a good chance for league members to get together every now and then.
Many owners have dialup connections. The only disadvantage is that it will take you a while longer to download the league file -- usually done three times a week. |

1) AIM is chat software used for chatting with others, real time (you can also do other things with it). It's something that you can turn on and off, just like any regular program so that if you don't wish to be bothered while you're online, just have it off.
2) The majority of leagues will have a league file for you to download after every sim so that you may be able to modify your rosters and stuff. The size of that file depends on a few factors: the longer the tenure of the league, generally speaking, the larger the file size, if boxscores are included, again the size will be bigger, if the almanac is included, the size will even be bigger, etc. In general, the file size will most likely fall in the range of 2.0MB to ~4.0MB. You also need to be online when you export your team file for your league... that doesn't take much, maybe under 10 seconds for a 56K modem. |

Thanks for the reply. I knew that AIM is for chat but just wanted to know if I needed to be available 24x7. I guess it's not as bad as I thought.
Now to find a league with an opening... |
