Manager / Coaches
Is there an option to use only real players as managers and coaches?
Thank you |

While they do turn into coaches on occasion (and more often in OOTP12) I don't believe you can force it only to be retired players.

I suspect it would be tedious, but that depends on your commitment.
![]() This is how I think you would go about doing this. First you need to be in commisioner mode. (optional - delete all the current non-player coaches from the available personnel list) Next you would have to go to your retired list and if you right click a player, 'turn into coach' should be one of the options (I hope - otherwise disregard the rest of this ). Make as many coaches from likely candidates as you desire. Might be easiest if you turned everybody into a potential coach. You might be able to use the mass pick function for this. Then you would have to offer contracts and hire the people. As commisioner you can 'play as' any of the teams. You would probably need to do this for all the teams if you want to fire (and delete?) existing coaches and hire in the ex-players. Another possibility would be to fire and delete the existing coaches and hope the AI goes about hiring in the new folks. The AI can sometimes be funky about this, though, and leave position open for a long time, especially if budget concerns come about. So, that's how I'd approach it. Probably too labor intensive for my tastes but your mileage may vary. ![]() Edit - As a maintenance procedure, every preseason you would probably have to change all the new retirees to coaches, check that the AI didn't fabricate some non-player coaches and do a quick look through all the AI's coaching staffs to see if it hired in any ringers. Edit 2 - When you start a league, your retiree list is probably empty, even if you do the thing about importing the history of before you start. If you were really sold on this idea, you would probably need to simulate the 10-20 years before you want to start to make sure you have retirees available. That means you would have to be careful about your picks for the draft and transactions and so forth. You would be able to sim a timeframe with one set of rules and then change things around when you want to start your 'real' league. Last edited by Bahgoon; 06-23-2011 at 11:24 AM. |

Yea what Baghoon said. Be prepared to spend several hours doing this...I thought 12 has full stats and profiles for mgrs, so sorry if I am wrong on this. But I did what baghoon said for 11. and spent 17 hrs putting all the accurate owners which took the longest and coaches (with accurate salaries) in for my MLB 1999 league.
Baseball reference come in handy as does this site. 1999 Atlanta Braves - The Baseball Cube |
