Ummm...
Well, the best strategy would be to get the best players on your team for the least money. Or did you want something more specific?

Favor Lefty/Lefty matchups. Ignore the Righty/Righty matchups, they have no use!

Here is my general strategy:
1) Assemble a good lineup and pitching staff 2) Assemble a good minor league system 3) Win division 4) Win League Divisional Series 5) Win League Championship Series 6) Win World Series 6) Sign free agents in off-season to fill holes 7) Draft good players Cycle repeats every year. *If needed trades should be made during the year to continue cycle.

Draft anyone with the last name of Heinsohn. These guys are always the best players in the league.

Draft clutch hitters. Oh yeah, and make sure you always take the Braves.

You need veteran leadership. And if that does not work, just edit all your players to make them better. It always works for me. But, veteran leadership and itangibles are definitely the key.

I build my team around 2 or 3 hitters with very high RBI ratings.

I tend to trade for young prospects who are almost ready for the big show and trade away my veteran guys. For example, I took over the Cubs and traded Moises Alou, Sammy Sosa, Corey Patterson, Mark Grudzielanik, Eric Karros and others for Mark Teixeira, C.C. Sabbathia, Victor Martinez, Hank Blalock, Matt Ginter, and Alex Cintron, Kevin Mench and a couple others. I also traded Heep Sop Choi for Travis Hafner because even though Choi hit for power better, Hafner had better AVG talent. So basically my lineup went.
C- Victor Martinez 1B- Travis Hafner 2B- Hank Blalock 3B- Mark Teixeira SS- Alex Cintron LF- Kevin Mench CF- I forgot RF- I also forgot SP- Kerry Wood SP- Mark Prior SP- C.C. Sabbathia SP- Carlos Zambrano SP- I forgot again. CL- Matt Ginter So basically my roster had a whole bunch of guys who may not dominate right now, but will end up at .500 and in the next few years will be awesome. Especially Prior, Teixeira and Hafner. |
