WAR presentation

Hi, as the WAR seems to be popular stat nowadays, which is really useful of getting quick glimpse of player's overall ability. I would like to have it more visible on some pages/views.

For example in the view player screen at the bottom right corner where last three year stats are shown, last column for batters is still VORP. Could this be changed to WAR? Also it would nice to have WAR there for pitcher's too, though not sure which column to replace or is there room to add it.

I'll might add some more examples, but now back to the game .

I agree...Personally, I'd like to see wOBA, total ZR, and WAR on the main player profile page for position players, and FIP and WAR on the main profile for pitchers.

Yeh, I suggested this during beta. WAR is more important to me than OPS+ and such. I hope this gets changed.

Well, OPS+ is a very important stat that should also be highly visible.

Ideally, I'd like to see the default view resemble Fangraphs' dashboard (see Jose Bautista's here: Jose Bautista » Statistics » Batting | FanGraphs Baseball) but don't expect that kind of change for this version. But maybe in 13 we can get the advanced metrics more prominent placement.

For you it might be, since I am not a fan of WAR, I dont want to see it replace OPS+ but would like to see it on the main player profile ...replacing VORP would be cool.

I'm assuming WAR takes into account baserunning WAR and defensive WAR. If so, I'd like it to be displayed more prominently than VORP, which seems to only account for offensive value.

I haven't bought 12 yet, but this is my question about WAR as implemented.

In 11, the VORP calculation seemed to use the highest applicable baseline for a player based on where he had played to that point in the season. For example, I had a minor-league SS play a few innings at 1B in one game due to subs, and he went from a single-digit VORP to double-digit NEGATIVE, and the only reason I could find was because he'd played at 1B, and therefore was being evaluated based on a higher baseline. Instead it should be calculated based on total PA per position (I don't know how PH/PR are handled, but IMO it would be sufficient to use his listed position). Does anyone know if WAR is calculated on a single baseline or multiple ones based on PA/position?

Not sure on this. From my beta-testing experience (and lots of attention to WAR), I'm pretty sure it's PA/position.

The player position WAR isn't calculated like FanGraphs or Baseball-Reference right now. Hopefully that can be fixed in a patch. Right now the replacement level and positional adjustments are off for position players.

Seconded.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Everybody seems to calculate WAR differently, but I like the way FanGraphs does it.

Same.

If anyone else is reading this and wants to see more WAR presented in the game as well as a better calculation for position players, please post here. I don't think Markus knows that people want this.

Agreed. I don't think we'll see a change to the calculation though since VORP has already been in the game, but I would definitely support it.

I like OPS+

However, I would really be more interested in being able to customize which stats were viewable by default rather than argue over which should make the cut and which should not.
