Slack/Taylor needs to happen next, if Taylor manages to take Slack out I think he locks up his place in the REC hall of fame.

If/when they face, Slack should destroy him. Taylor has been surprising though fighting at post prime in this second go-round.

How are things post-census Rommy?

For the Archery events, I am using the archery piece of an olympic simulation that someone put together over on Table Top Sports. The Archers will come from an event called the Scorton Arrow that has records dating back to the late 17th century.

They only list the Captain and Lieutenant of the arrow (1st and 2nd place) and then just the names of those competing (for the really early matches) - no ranking. So, I just made a spreadsheet and gave them 5 pts for Captain, 3 for Lieutenant and 1 for competing. I assumed that if they were terrible, they woudn't have competed for too many years so the scoring should be somewhat ok. Then I sorted then by total score. The sim from Table Top Sports has a rating value for archers on a scale by tenths up to 10. I bell curved the list of names from 5.0 to 9.3 and called it good.

Of course, there may be a small group of hard core anchient archery simmers out there that will berate me for rating Leonard Brakenbury higher than Reverend Theobalds or will claim that Cuthbert Routh was a much better rover than clout shooter and should therefore have a separate rating for that but I'll cross that bridge when it comes.

I may add horse racing to this in the 1770s as well.

Well, the job with the census came to an end in Nov of last year and I haven't had any luck finding anything since. I've had a couple of interviews, in fact have one tomorrow, but just haven't managed to land anything yet. I have started to get some IT certificates, got my A+ and have started on the MCITP, to see if I can land some in that field so who knows we'll see how it pans out.

Well, that is even more reason to have Slack face off with Taylor should Taylor get by the good doctor. Never did like Taylor for the way he went out first time around so seeing him get crushed would be fun.

Best wishes with the interview today. What a tough time for college grads to be starting out in the work force.

I have let this lay for a little over a year. The web-based program that I use to create my lame web site Royal Explorers' Club requires IE 7. I had to get a new laptop last year and it has Windows 7 as an OS which can't run IE 7 easily. However, I recently found a good add-on that allows me to spoof the web-based program making it think that it is receiving IE 7 instructions from my newer version. This is good, I had tried Opera, Mozzila, Chrome, programs that were supposed to allow me to load IE 7 on a Windows 7 OS, et cetera but nothing worked prior to this.

Anyway, I've picked it back up again and despite needing to fiddle with a few more things, the website is back up.

So, Where was I?

Taylor, Barber George (1730 - 1738; 1745 - ), had ramped up to a big title fight with Broughton, Jack (1725 - 1741) back in 1737. He performed badly, lost to a second rate slob and retired from the ring while still in his twenties.

Seven years later, Taylor came out of retirement, notched some wins and took the world title by handing Smallwood, Tom (1741 - ) his first defeat.

Presently, it is 1749. Taylor has made four defenses and has signed articles to face Slack, Jack (1743 - ) in March. Slack is 11-0, holds the English title and has been butchering opponents for several years now.

Records of all fighters that have appeared 1695 - 1749:

Hopefully, I'll get to the Taylor-Slack bout within the week or at least before technology changes again and my out-dated stuff is rendered useless again.
