FA/financial Bug?
Starting with the 8th season and now in 10 th, there seems to be a problem with the fa $.
The front office screen will tell me i have 9 mil available for fa, but when i go to sign one it tells me i have 5 mil. Holds for when it says i have 5 mil avail but only can spend 1 mil. When i hsve less than 5 mil avail i can not sign anyone. Says i ave no $. I have room in the cap so dont know why i cant sign anyone. Bug ? |

I have played 2 more seasons and it is still carrying. Seems to be a % of what it says I have available and what it will let me spend. Looks about 50%.
Have not heard from iOOTP dev on this yet. It seems like a bug that we can hope they will fix with the next update. thanks |

Owner is lenient, and his opinion is estatic Market is below avg Fan loyalty is great Fan interest is 100 Budget is 120,000,000 Payroll is 114,630,000 Money for extensions is 69,280,000 Money for free agents is 5,370,000 When i try to sign a free agent it says i have no money available to sign a free agent. But in reality i do. This started about 6 seasons in or so give or take. Help. ,.... Thans Tim |

It looks like it thinks my budget is 110,000,000 instead of 120,000,000. This did start around the time the owner increased my budget from 110 to 120.
I just got rid of some contracts and it shows me with 12,000,000 available for fa, but when i try to sign one it says i ave 2,000,000. So it thnks i hve 110 not 120. That is why everytime i am over 110 it says i dont hv any. |

I'm trying to work on a theory in regards to market size, fan loyalty and fan interest in relation to the owner's personality and his/her fiscal personality.
I haven't been able to make a clear connection yet, but I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, I found this helpful (even though the PC version (OOTP 11) has more features it definitely helped. OOTP Baseball Manual - The Team Financial Model In one of my leagues, my budget information (under Front Office) said that I had 38M, though when I went to sign someone via FA my owner said that I had 48M. |

More testing info on budget bug...
It does look like that only the sign fa function does not know that the owner increased your team budget. You can still trade for players that take your total to the new budget, you just cant sign fa. So i was able to trade for a 12m salary to get to 120m. Evn in the trade negotiation screen it is sing the 120 number not the 110 number. The sign fa is using the 110 number. |

I'm seeing some weird behavior, possibly related, possible bug. I'm hoping someone can lend some insight as to whether it's a bug or just some game feature I don't understand.
I just finished up my first season, and I'm in the offseason (February). What I'm seeing is similar, but opposite -- I seem to have too *much* money for FAs. My budget is $140M; my payroll is $136M. However, when I look at a FA, it tells me I have almost $12M to spend, and the owner approves any amount up to that. Is that normal? Are you for some reason allowed to exceed your budget prior to spring training? Or could it be just this bug? I wonder particularly given the talk of fan interest, because I never noticed it prior to jacking my fan interest up to 100 with some big name (trade) acquisitions. Then again, I was way under budget last season and money hasn't been an issue until now, so I probably would not have noticed. |

@ Spiffe
What is your owner's fiscal personality? I'm wondering if it relates to being very charitable and/or "Win Now at ALL Costs" type and is will to pay more for a championship. |

I think the bug is for 10 million. My budget is at 140 million, but free agency won't let me pass 130.

I have to take a look. It should work like in OOTP as we took it straight from OOTP11. But I will look if I find an error somewhere.

A different kind of issue
Can I piggy-back on this thread?
After two off-seasons, I have noticed that most of the teams in my league are "over budget." Because of this, my team, which is about $20 mil over-budget cannot trade away any higher priced players to try and get under the budget. The strange thing is that the game is continuing as if there are no budgetary problems. I would have expected that the game would have issue with the fact that 75% of the teams in the league are over budget - a number of them by significant amounts. This is a fictional league, and I think most of the over-budget teams got there through arbitration awards to players. Please let me know if this sounds like something that should be looked into. Also, let me know if you need any additional information from me. Thanks. dmarco82 |

It gets weirder... since my last post, the only financial actions I've taken are:
FYI, Mesoraco makes $400K; Heyward makes $496.5K. So... WTH? No idea why I'm suddenly at $0 for FA, according to the front office screen. I should have over $4M to spend. Of course, that still hasn't stopped me from actually being able to sign $6-7M deals if I want. However, I can't actually trade now. On THAT screen, the game seems to think I'm half a million over budget already. I'm guessing it has to do with FA signings? Like it thinks all these minor league deals are counting against the cap... sometimes. It's pretty frustrating. This is not a minor feature, that I can kind of ignore that's it buggy. Managing player contracts are the whole point of the game. You have some serious problems here, which need to get fixed. Last edited by Spiffe; 06-28-2011 at 09:17 PM. |

If it's in-season, your ability to sign or trade for players maybe affected by extensions you may have given players, that would make next year's payroll higher than the current payroll. So a player might put you over next year's budget even if he fits under this year's budget (if his contract has more than a year left). In the off season this shouldn't be an issue though.
I have also noticed that my actual money available to sign FA's in exactly $10,000,000 less than what it says in the front office screen (I'm in the off season at the moment). My budget has been 140,000,000 for several seasons in a row, so I don't think it's related to budget changes. |

I'd considered that, but none of those apply in my case. I have a spreadsheet of all salaries for current & future fiscal years, and next year's salary will be lower than this year's current salary, even if I choose to retain my 1 remaining arbitration guy (Jacoby Ellsbury; $118M without, $131M with). Future years are not even remotely an issue; I only have 6 players under contract for 2 years from now.
Heyward is arbitration-eligible for like $12M, I believe, which would just about fit the numbers to run $1M over budget if I were to retain him & Ellsbury, but the theory didn't hold even after I tried switching him out to some other lowbie prospect that wasn't arbitration-eligible. |
