Very, very few. And that's the way it's been for years and years and years here.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking now and again for an update on a project that was anounced as started a year ago and promised / pointed toward for the better part of a decade.

I don't think there is a thing wrong with asking for an occasional update and by and large the community here is very patient, polite and most of all loyal.

The few times folks have been rude is far outweighed by the many times others have been respectful, polite and grateful for information given.

The following for TBCB may be small compared to other text sims like OOTP, but it has been here for a long time and this board has remained active long after it would have died with just about any other game that was given so little attention.

And again, I understand the economics, but there are a large number of people that would be very happy just to have Paul or Andreas stop in from time to time and say still pluggin away on conversion, finishing up new interface, nothing much done this quarter with OOTP coming out or even just Hi, thanks for your patience and understanding as we continue to juggle projects.

I don't know Paul, but my interactions with Markus and Andreas have always been great and I am not angry or even frustrated, so I don't want this next sentence misconstrued. For the most part the TBCB community gives OOTP Developments respect and I think we need to start getting a little back in the form of "hey, we haven't forgotten you" if nothing else.

Edit: This thread is one year old and has almost 10,000 views, that should prove everything I just posted about the passion and loyalty towards and for this game.

Again, I'm fine with people asking about it and such, but this thread has not always been filled with polite people. There have been some members who have been demanding and rude. Again, it doesn't reflect whatsoever on the community, but there are a few members who I got into it with because of it. They were who my comment was directed to.

Totally understand that and didn't take it any other way, I guess my point was Paul should also realize the majority here support him and are still standing by the game and ignore the others. Heck, OOTP puts out a new game yearly and I dare say they development team takes much more grief there per capita than we ever give.

Who's rude dude?

I guess I'm the rude guy because I find the statement that contains "pointless heckling" to be pretty arrogant. I'm sorry my support and enthusiasm for the products discussed here is so bothersome.

Hi Guys,

I don't like leaving you guys in the dark, I too have been stuck waiting for a game to be released. It is very frustrating, especially when there is no news. I am very careful not to make any promises that I might not be able to keep. I am a strong believer in only making a promise if you are fully intending to see it through.

I am planning on releasing later this year. As has been mentioned above iOOTP/OOTP12 as well as some personal issues have slowed progress more than I had liked. With OOTP12 entering beta testing I will still have some disruption, but hopefully not too much now.

I have passed some initial TBCB screen shots to Aurelio our graphics artist so he can "work his magic" on my rather lame attempt at skinning. Once I have a skin that looks good I will post some screen shots.

Cheers

Paul

Paul:

It really would be great to hear from you on a routine basis even if it's just once a month or so to briefly let people know what is going on - even if it's just to mention the things that are causing delays for you.

The majority here are patient and polite. The few who aren't need to be overlooked by you. Just understand what you are dealing with here. This community has been promised a role-playing version of TBCB for litteraly decades. (some recall the toying with a RP version of the board game mentioned in the magazine All Star Replay back in the 80s)

Here is a thread from 5 years ago dealing with this same topic: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...7-28-06-a.html That thread gets testy at points but remember - this was an announcement about a then-long awaited product that had been promised or discussed and pulled previously. Now, five years later, you have to see that it is not unreasonable for a few people to be skeptical or even a little testy. That loyal following 5 years ago had already been thinned by the same sort of inaction that has further thinned the crowd you are seeing here today.

This 'anouncement' is now a year old and people here understandably feel that the same old record is being replayed once again. That is not your fault at all but if you construe the very few frustrated posts that appear here as heckling and decide to stay away as a result I think this will go rather poorly for all involved. This is a niche title, and everyone here gets that. It has a very small but loyal following and an inability to roll with the few frustrations that boil to the surface now and again will simply further reduce the patient and loyal following that it still has.

Adopting a stance of going on radio silence because of taking a frustated post or two personaly may leave us with a group too small to even draw beta testers from once a product is finally ready.

Christopher

Let me answer this one please... First we want to release a TBCB 2.6 which is basically an updated TBCB 2.5 but running on PC Windows, Mac OS X and on Linux. This is the base for the next version of TBCB, which should include RPG elements.
But first let's get TBCB 2.6 done

Andreas and Paul, thank you. Things like this are all we really need and Paul's post about the screenshots is a perfect example of just a little update that keeps the community 'morale' up.

Andreas, can I ask you if there will be changes that effect the text database. I would like to start working on it again if the current DB will be compatible with version 2.6.

TBCB 2.6 will be compatible with the current text database. Also the fighter database will be compatible with the current one. (If we would change anything we would write a converter.)

Thanks for all your help, guys! Your work on the text database and the fighter database really adds a LOT to TBCB and is much appreciated.

I have not purchased the game yet but would like to this weekend. We are in the process of converting to MAC (just purchased a Macbook Pro> We still have our PC descktop. If I purchase 2.5 can I upgrade when 2.6 releases and transfer to our Mac? Or should I wait?

We do not know yet whether there will be an upgrade discount for TBCB 2.5 owners upgrading to TBCB 2.6. It will cost something, but we do not kow yet if it will be full-price or not.
You will be able to import your saved games, tho
