Non Pitchers who Pitch
Saw a game this week where a non-Pitcher ended up Pitching for the Phillies
![]() Do Non-Pitchers have any Pitching attributes as such ?

Sometimes they do. In a fictional league I've seen a few guys who were outfielders but had mediocre (9/9/9) pitching stats and defense. |

I drafted a guy as a pitcher who never developed close to his pitching talent, but he had decent outfield ratings and OK batting. During a season where I had 3 outfielders injured, I brought him up as an outfield as an emergency measure and his hitting actually developed, so now he's my regular backup outfielder.

You can use it the other way too! I have been drafting in the 5th round, only batters with bad ratings and low potentials out there, like you would've expected. Selected a RF with goog pitching ratings and set his position to MR after the draft. 2/4 stars, like him as a pitching talent with a better than average hitting for pitchers... :-)
Otherwise you'll never have pitchers that can hit a bit in the NL after all the present one's retired. I think in college/high school there are many guys capable of hitting and pitching, so it fits well to have some here too. |

I once drafted a shortstop who was really average as a hitter, he was guy who could play anywhere on the diamond, but wasnt a great hitter, had 50 potential as a batter. I noticed he was strong defensively at pitcher, checked out his pitching ratings, and the kid could pitch! Converted him to a MR and he peaked at a 68/68 and as of right now is 36-24 with 130 saves and a 2.30 ERA. I also used him as an emergency backup infielder. I now ALWAYS look for guys like this in the late rounds. I check their positional ratings and see if maybe they are just out of position.

I'm also into looking for guys that can play two ways...Brooks Kieshnick/Rick Ankiel types. Currently, I've got a MR who has good stuff and movement, but no control. He also plays all 3 outfield positions, has 60 (out of 100) power potential and has 100 speed and 98 stealing. I haven't used him in the field much yet, but he's often called upon to pinch run when I'm playing out games. He's basically a 25th man, since he's not good enough to start hitting or pitch in close games, but he sure is fun to have around.

Click the player name and swipe to the left (or right). Or you can click the View button at bottom to jump to a specific page of the player's details.
I just keep them all in my head. Not the most accurate method, but less time-consuming than a spreadsheet. It really helps that the ratings are colored so I have two bits of information to relate (number and color)... oh, and length of bar... so three really. It's pretty easy to remember. |
