Smile OOTP 12 - Update 05/25

Hey guys,

things are progressing very nicely here, beta testing started last week and I am about to implement the last missing features.

In the meantime I have added some new stuff that you might like:
- New player development screen, here you set (the new) player development budget, see the standings of all your minor league teams, a list of your prospects and a graphical representation of your organizational depth chart.
- Recoded international scouting. You can now pick countries you want to scout, with the cost depends on the baseball program quality of that country. Also, 'hidden' players are now almost exclusively 16-18 years of age. If undiscovered for a couple of years, they will be replaced by young ones again.
- Added the option to have international free agents enter the market once free agents file. You can set the number of players who enter the league that way or simply switch this feature off.
- Added history for coaches, just like managers before.

I know I promised screenshots this week, but I was simply too busy to take them and write some stuff up, so this will have to wait another few days.

Cheers,
Markus

Great news Markus - I love the idea of a separate player development screen.

Nice, but there are likely to be people mad about the lack of screenshots.

Vorfreude ist die schönste Freude.

(I wonder how Google will translate that)

Geez, I didn't even know I wanted this, but I do. Badly!

These "extras" are more than just throw-ins to me. Thanks for the unexpected surprise!

And here I thought it was going to mean 'whiners should cut me some slack' but it meant, 'Anticipation is the greatest joy '.

They say that an image is worth a thousand words...

But in this case, your 199 words are worth more than a thousand images!

Thank you for the update!

Not sure what google you are using, mine says "Anticipation is half the fun" which is what i would think he meant in the first place.

Anyway, sounds good, glad things are moving along smoothly.

Wow, those new features sound awesome. I'm pretty equally excited about all four. Thanks for the info.

And how is yours (Anticipation is half the fun) drastically different then mine ('Anticipation is the greatest joy )? They mean pretty much the same thing.

I saw both translations and I picked mine for no particular reason.

One obvious question about international free-agents: How will that work if you have a league in more than one country? Would it be possible to have a player from one league appear in the free agent list of the other for example?

Unofficial response: it wouldn't surprise me, given that waiver wires are available across leagues when you have the ability to sign free agents in other leagues turned on.

One's a glass half full and the other half empty? Waiting for the great joy sounds a bit preferable- although it's not my nature -than the natural reaction to wonder if anticipation is half the fun, what's the other half? My guess is that half isn't so fun.

That already works in OOTP 11, you can set the rules to allow/ not allow FAs from different leagues to enter your league.

The new feature in OOTP 12 generates fresh players who are established ratings-wise (and age-wise) from countries which have no league in your game. They will appear in the FA list of every league which allows FAs from other leagues.

Ok, that makes sense.

I like the new international scouting idea. Are players from lesser baseball nations more likely to have worse ratings?

I'll be interested in hearing more about the player development budget works, my fear is that it sounds one of those things that pretty much needs to be maxed out or you're hurting yourself.

No fear, the effect on player development is very small, but it is a good way to burn cash / budget room. If you leave it at an average setting for your team, it is as if it doesn't exist, compared to OOTP 11.
