I see no way you could have a news.xml file for mixed leagues however. You'd always have instances of a news item saying 'he' when its talking about a woman and vice versa.

A full female news.xml file is very doable. Who wants one?

No, it's a feature I would never use.

The natural inclination of this board is to include almost anything and everything and that's fine, but IMHO it kind of skews the poll. Just as you say a "no opinion" could reduce the "no" vote I wonder how many of our yes votes would actually use the feature other than as a one time novelty or simply not at all.

Well you can certainly set up your poll any way you like and I do think staying away from the "don't care" option was a good idea. I do hope though you can appreciate what I'm trying to say about the poll as it is set up.

With two yes options we would get a much clearer picture between those that would use a women's league and those that just think the ability should be there for those that may want it and yet not change the total number of yes votes.

Not saying you set the poll up to get a certain outcome. I would just find it very interesting to know how many of the "yes" votes would use the feature.

I am trying to replicate the existing National Pro Fastpitch (NLF) league. I am also finding creating Facegen files a major effort. I have about 30 female players now. If I do make a set of about 100 then I will post them on Padresfan's site. I would like to see OOTP accomodate mods like long hair and open collars. Here is a copy of one of my better Photofit files. The open collar is just my own art work.

True. Say, when is Markus going to remove the DH option from the game so we can true REAL baseball? Bye bye American League, Pacific League in Japan, modern minor league setups... *cough*


For people who keep saying "hey mods can handle this," no, they cannot truly handle it. Modders cannot make the game automatically generate female facegens and you cannot ADD ethnicities, so they would have to overwrite one of the name sets. Granted, I would assume most people would have a name set they're willing to overwrite, but saying "mods can handle it" as a reason to not add it is like saying FaceGen, generic logos, etc. should have never been added since mods have been doing those since the pre-2006 days.

What about just using the picture for the player? I havent downloaded their pics in 2 yrs, but last time i did most didnt have caps on so having Jennie Finch in a Bandits uniform while playing for the Delgado Tigers didnt seem to be an issue. Jennie Finhs facegn looks nothing like Jennie Finch...may Paul Finch

Correct mods cannot make the game generate female facegens but Markus could, that is exactly the problem. The original posters said they only needed names and pbp text. It was an easy "no-brainer" addition that wasn't going to take away from development time. They were just going to use photos-packs, ala the pre-facegen versions of OOTP. It was going to be easy and not add support problems for Markus.

I then pointed out once officially in the game Markus would have to support the feature with facegen, hard coded pbp text, etc. After all once it is officially in the game and someone requests more "reality" who are we or Markus to say no? They paid for the game, the feature is included with the game, so how come they shouldn't expect facegen, hardcoded text etc.? Can you say 3d female modeled players for v13? I was told no big deal. Markus wouldn't have to do any support he could just explain that women's leagues weren't a supported feature.

Assuming that Markus ever took the steps to put this in the game (I don't see it happening anytime soon--if at all anyway), of course he would have to support it. How would that be any different than any other feature?

Assuming people are okay with PBP, a name set and outside photo sets then I don't see the big deal because nobody is gonna push to make it officially.

Again, several people have said they're okay with mods and nobody else has pushed for it be a priority, I don't think you have much to worry about.

I'd also like to sincerely apologize for any misconceptions I may have had. If I was out of line with anything I said, please forgive me.

I do respect your opinion on this matter. Once again, my quarrel was with the tone, not with your stance on the issue. As I said to Sweed, our positions aren't really all that far apart.

Anyway, I hope we can put all of this behind us. It sounds as if cooler heads have prevailed and that people on each side of the issue are working to come up with solutions that satisfy everyone's wants, without needlessly distracting Markus.

Hopefully, we can all continue to engage in frank, yet civil dialogue concerning the future of OOTP. I'm confident that by showing mutual respect and offering constructive criticism, we can collectively make OOTP a more enjoyable pastime for all of us.

Here's a female first names file with 4275 of the most popular American female names. They are not weighted, meaning you will get a random sampling of the entire list.

To use this, you need to replace the first names in the names file in the game with these. Replace first name set ZERO with these. MAKE SURE AND BACKUP YOUR NAMES FILE FIRST.


Again, these replace the names at the top of the names file that end in the number 0. Copy the contents of this file and paste them into the names file in the game, replacing those ending in zero.

I used photos before Facegen. Now I only use Facegen since I want that team identification. Here's my version of Jennie Finch. I am new to making PhotoFit files from the free Facegen Modeller and realize there is a lot more for me to learn

You can, but then you'll get a mix of male and female names.

They don't need to be in any order.
