iOOTP Stories

I just though it would be nice to have a general topic in which you can write some stories that happen to you in game. Either just general how a game is going or if you play a really good game and want to discuss it.

I may aswell start off. I started a fictional legue with the inaugural draft and I went with the Fort Worth Diamond Dogs. I drafted fairly strongly and traded to improve my team a good bit. My first season was solid finishing with the best in SL2 but unfortunately lost to the columbus slayers in the first round. It went to the final game but they just beat me 6-4. They went on to win the whole thing so I felt better about that. My record was 94-68

My second season wasnt so good. I picked up better relievers in the free agency but my team stayed mostly the same. But we werent playing well for most of the year. My batters were all hitting worse and my star pitchers who ran the first season were not on form. I made a few trades. The main was I got rid of my catcher who was not performing and brought in gerard Howell who got 3 HRs in his first 4 games. He was a good trade. The season recovered some bit and I managed to come back close to the seattle hippotamuses (I know ridicolous name). I was 12 games behind at one point but got it back to 1 and lost on the last day unfortunately to not make the playoffs. my record finished 90-72

I moved into the offseason and managed to pick up an amazing free agent. I figured after my poor batting last year I needed someone new so I brought in Arnie Smith. He can play LF, RF or CF and has 18 defense in all 3. He has 20 contact and 17 power. His speed and stealing are both 19. So I figured this guy would be able to run things on my team. And so far he has. Im 56-26 in my third season and my pitchers are back on form and my batters are great.
The other big thing that impacted my club was a new owner. Pedro Diaz came into the club and bought it. He has injected a lot of cash into the team which is great. That was a big help in getting Arnie Smith. It was really cool when I got the message informing me of new ownership. I hope I can reward him now.

Anywho thats my story. Anyone else got stuff to tell??

I used the inaugural draft bug to start an inaugural draft using real rosters.

I chose the Anaheim Angels.

My lineup was built around prospects and Albert Pujols. I drafted Strasburg, Stanton, Harper, Trout, and Pujols, along with a slough of filler players rated 20/80 but still had decent contact.

I acquired Clayyton Kershaw to serve as a temporary ace with Tommy Hanson, and realized that relievers are worth very little in the game. I traded a few non-factor hitters for some decent relievers and played my first season.

Despite Mike Trout's 186 batting average, he managed to lead the league in steals. With Maxed values (overpowered IMO) in baserunning he was able to steal second and third base every time he got on. Without fail. Seriously.

Despite Pujols' 40 home runs, coupled with Stanton's 28, I managed my team to a 71-91 record. Including a 8 game winning streak at the end. And so for the first time I was glad there was no sacks in a simulation game.

In the next four years, I managed to win consecutive Manager of the years, while winning the World Series, or the "Round Three" (let us edit playoff round names?) thrice. At the end of those four years, Pujols' 26 million forced me to let him go. Mike Stanton followed and I was left with Bryce Harper and a drafted player named Paul English as my sole power bats.

I managed to get off to a lucky start of 12 wins in a row and therefore was able to reach the playoffs the year after Pujols' and Stanton's departures.

Since then, I've made the playoffs all but one year.

Pujols won the MVP twice, and Strasburg won the Cy Young every year since he was injured. It's 2021 now. Seriously. No pitcher is that good. Except maybe Pedro Martinez. Strasburg is not Pedro Martinez. Pedro Martinez gets old. Strasburg does not. I hope the guys at ootp realize Stephen Strasburg is in fact mortal

Hello,

I have started my first season with the Toronto Bluejays. Here are some highlights:

1. 16-24 record, my starting pitching has been very inconsistent.
2. Aaron Hill, Adam Lind and Jose Bautista have been great
3. I am focusing on a third baseman in the offseason if Lawrie isn't ready

Overall, this game is amazing! I love iootp.

I finally delivered a trophy for Fort Worth. It was in my 5th season. I hadnt won a play off series up til then with 4 appearances which was terrible. But I managed to win all 3 and win it all which is great. My pitching team has only improved but my main man Juan Robaina is going to go soon. He has 3 years on his contract but I think he may be done then. I have plenty to back him up. I have also improved the depth on my team which was a contributing factor. I picked up players in free agency who can back up my starters. I didnt really have that before. Hopefully I can continue on now.

Just started a new fictional league game. My team is the Manhattan Fire. I did a draft to start but set certain conditions for my team. they were:
-1 5star player
-max 3 30+ aged players
-1 4 star+ reliever

They limited me and weakened my team a bit which I liked. My first pick was difficult. I was between going for a 5 star pitcher but 33 which would use up one of my older spots, a 4.5 star pitcher who was 28 and a five star batter. I spent a while between them but went with the 4.5 star pitcher. I then took Randy Compton (LF). I went through the rest of my picks and sticking to the limits I set.

I ended up with some solid starting pitchers and a really good closer. My Relievers are a bit weaker but so far are holding up ok. My batting is fairly strong but I have some weaknesses in my fielding. Randy Compton has been fantastic so far and is third in SL1 for HR and 3rd for RBI. Fernando Mireles (4.5 pitcher) has also been really good so far as my main pitcher.
My record is 18-12 so far. I was lucky to pull an easy division. The three teams, Dalls, detroit and Sacramento, all have losing records at the moment. But the league in general is strong enough. I decided to set Dallas as my division rival but also the Brooklyn Icebergs. I picked them both for proximity (geography) and the fact that they are icebergs and I am fire. I thought that worked nicely. I tend to play more of these "rivalry" games rather than simming them.

I'm in my 5th season and just made the playoffs for the first time. playing as Detroit. really struggling. I was 24-47 and finished 81-81 and somehow won the division. Lost in the ALDS. not sure what it is but I can't do anything close to what I could do on the pc. I guess it will just take some time.

I'm playing as the Milwaukee Brewers and playing out almost every game.

The first season, I wanted to keep the roster pretty much realistic so I made only some minor moves. That lasted until mid-season when I had two 10+ game losing streaks and I traded most non-core players for prospects. I finished a dismal 65-97.

Over the offseason, the computer proposed several horrible trades (for them) and I made several other good ones (for me) and brought in Verlander and Porcello from Detroit to pitch, Bryce Harper to grow in the minors, and Alcides Escobar to actually field. I finished with the best record in the NL at 93-69. Playoffs yet to come!

I was playing the tigers.. (Remember, I was the one concerned about home runs?)

At the halfway point of the season , the Tigers had played 81 games, and had hit 310 home runs, averaging about 3-4 a game. (Basically, they hit more home runs in half a season than they have ever hit in a single season.)

I stopped and started over with a fictional game, and haven't seen anything that weird since.

The new league I'm in is a fictional 8 team league, it's going pretty good and I'm enjoying it. I might go back and sim out the Tigers just to see what happens, but I already have Miguel Cabrera at around 55 home runs. He's definitely power. It'd certainly break the record, and with most of the games (just by 3) occurring at Comerica, .. welll.. Comerica is not exactly a hitter's park.

My ficticious league contains a player named Sterling Moss. Anybody else have actual famous people in their league?

Finished off my first season in charge at Manhattan. I managed to take first place in my division fairly easy and this also boosted me to top in the conference. I hope next year the others improve. I moved into the playoffs against Indianapolis Miracle. The series was very tight. I went 1 down then tied, then went 1 up and they tied. I managed to take game 5 in extra innings. It was a really good series. I then moved onto Honolulu Blades. It went to game 7 and I lost 6-4. I was so close but all in all a really good season. Honolulu went on to beat Boston in the final. Randy Compton got top batter in SL1 and I had Ron Perry (RF) on the defensive team.

I had done plenty of resigningg through the season to make sure I kept my stars so I only lost one poor reliever to the free agency. My pitching team had been solid except for one guy. So I decided to try find someone to come in and replace him. I was going for the number 1 guy who had 17 in all main stats, 65% ground ball, 97-99 velocity and really good pitches. I was in the negotiating for a while but others offered too much for me. In the end he was earning 35M for 7 years. My next target went too but my third guy I managed to get at 22.5 and he is still fairly decent. I also picked up a reliever and an older infielder who can play backup on the depth chart.

Im 11-3 so far but my rivals, Dallas, are only 2 games behind so hopefully I get more competition from them this year. Money could become an issue I feel as my salaries are quite high right now. Im going to try and trade off some guys that I dont need.

Not that I have seen but I did have a Carlos Carlos and one time when I started a fictional league, one of the teams was called Alberquerque Isotopes. I just started laughing when I saw it.
