Help a Fellow Player
New to OOTP but looking forward to playing in competitive fiction league. I guess im looking for someone to just kind of explain how these leagues work. Are they free, are they daily, just any basic thing you know about the leagues you would be willing to share i'd like to learn. Also i am going to soon be trying to join a fictional league. I know how to operate through OOTP 11 well just not sure about league play.
Thanks, Daniel |

Are they free ?
Yes apart from the obvious ie the game and your internet connection. Are they daily ? Depends what you mean daily, you can post on the league forums and such daily but as far as sims go it can be anything from everyday sims to once a week sims, you'd have to check with the league of your choice and rules but on average it's usually 3 times per week. Check the rules of the league carefully, you may have to say write articles for the league which maybe not your thing. Check the forum to see if it's active, you don't want to join a league and see tumbleweeds rolling down the forums everyday. Check to see if it's a friendly league, maybe ask around about the league as you don't want to join in the middle of world war 3 unless you like a good argument. Most of all though do your homework before joining a league specially if it's your first, you don't want your first to be a bad experience as it could turn you away from online league play in the future. |

I have tried 3 leagues...The 1st 2 were disasters in my opinion. Took 3 weeks to do an expansion draft, and 90% of the time the list wasnt correct.
The 2nd 1 I had to bow out of because of work at the time. Now this new league I joined the EBL, I am loving so far, We have just begun ST. I am the GM of the Cardinals and have many people including our designated interviewer, who is the GM of NYY, questioning my motives for making massive deals in my 1st few days at the helm. I belive I have a division winning team. we are full right now but check out the EBL online forum/threads. (not to be confused with my EBL solo league) |

4 yes to play online league u would download the league file so if its alongtime league like the PEBA, make sure u have plenty of space. the EBL file was approx 2 gb to download now its close to 5? give or take. then after how ever many days the GM has setup to sim, right now the EBL is 7 days for spring training. he emails the league and then we go into the game and download the update, to download my update it takes 20+ mins. I make any changes and send it back, that takes less then 30 secs. You would have to join a league by finding out who needs people and in the 2 days since i saw this thread i have seen 3 leagues with openings. Also getting on a waiting list is a good idea so u can get a team u want or to be able to follow a league for a season, a season typically takes 2 months. I had 2 choices, Cardinals or Mets. I know nothing of the Mets overall so I took the Cardinals. and ask the GM's in their various threads on here additional ques. as well as in here, I cant answer everything , but i can try. |

Look around this forum to find leagues that need owners. Pick one that looks like you'd be interested in joining. Often the post will mention that the league is a good one for new players. Contact the Commish by whatever means he requests in his post. Explain that you are new to on-line play, but you'd be interesting in joining the league. The Commish should offer to walk you through the entire process. Leagues don't like to have teams without owners...the Commish should be happy to help you get up-to-speed. If not, keep looking for a league in which the Commish is eager to help. Good luck...have fun. |

I can only echo what bigfatcat as stated, find a league you'd be interested in joining then contact the commish more than likely with a pm on here or via email. Trust me you'll have a good chance of knowing it's a good league by their reply, most of the commish I know will do their upmost to help you.

I just started on-line leagues a month ago and I got lucky with The Pioneer League. They only have one level of minor leagues and not a lot of other rules involed with running a team. It also helps that the guy running the league was very patient with me while I tried to get the league set up on my iMac (not a lot us on yet). Look at their league to find a simpler league then expand. I am already on a second league and looking for another.
Also, decide if you want fictional or real players. Their is a lot more work involved with the fictional league as you learn who everyone is. Terry
