Database errors each time I play
So I'm having a problem when I play the game. No matter what I do, the game won't save properly. If I exit normally, or if my screen locks, or if I switch to another app - the game closes and restarts and the saved game says its corrupted and that there's a database error. I have the option of having it try to recover the game, or to cancel, but when I go to click either option, nothing happens.
I'm on the Verizon iPhone, 4.2.6, jailbroken. Here's the screen I'm getting. Can someone let me know what I'm doing wrong? ![]() I ended up staying up until 3:30am playing the game with the 1923 Red Sox, managed back to back pennants (1 WS) in 1927 and 1928, and closed down before going to bed, and got the same error I got with the 2011 season I started hours earlier. Same deal today, I was in a meeting that I wasn't involved in, so I was playing the game on the side. The screen locked and the game shut down - and I got this same message when I tried to reload. |

Have you tried rebooting your idevice? That might help.

I rebooted and the files I've saved still won't load and give me the same error message.
I started a new league, simulated a few weeks, and then switched applications. It didn't immediately shut down this time which is good. I shut down the app and the file loaded this time. I suppose the moral of the story is to reboot the iPhone after installing any reasonably large game or app. Thank you. |

By any chance, is your device jailbroken and you have some form of Cydia apps installed? We had a beta tester who had this and he had the same problems. After he removed it, he had no problems anymore.

I have a few Cydia apps, but for whatever reason rebooting stopped the game from closing whenever I'd switch apps and as a result corrupting the files. I have been speaking with people that are jailbroken and haven't had any of the issues that I'm having (and they didn't reboot before playing). It's probably just a fluky thing that's affecting a small number of users.

Create a new league and it should fix the issue. I had the same problem but haven't had any issues since creating a new league after the reboot. |

I've actually created new game files each time, but I've still received the error message... I've been using the major league file each time

Strange. You have a 2. Generation iPod Touch which we not officially support BUT I heard nothing like that from other user. Did you try a new, clean install from iOOTP and reboot your device: Reboot device
Memory is critical on the old devices BUT as far as I tested it (and so far we had no complains from user with older devices) it should work.

Probably a dumb question, but: do you have enough free "disk" space on the device?

If you have "Activator" installed as a Cydia app (or any other app that modifies what the home button does or background processes), then you should uninstall it.
When I beta-tested iOOTP, I had the same problem. When I removed 'Activator,' it worked fine and always saved my progress. |

I am also having the "Database Problem" issue.
Whenever I see the dreaded "Database Problem" screen and click on the OK button, nothing appears to happen. In other words, the button doesn't "depress" or change colors or anything. Sometimes it sits there forever, but sometime the app quits after a few minutes. Reloading the app and trying again yields the same result. The "Load Game" screen shows zero saved games. I've lost multiple leagues in different phases (Majors first month, Majors halfway through first season, Majors first offseason (in true Braves fashion, 101Ws and a postseason sweep-out), Fictional halfway through first season). I'm at a total loss here and the game is essentially worthless without reliable saving. I don't want to devote time and effort when I know it could go up in a cloud of smoke at any moment. I'm actually holding off on rating the game because I don't want to give it a single star - I'm a big OOTP fan and have longed for the game literally years before it was even announced (like so many others, I imagine). I work in software engineering for a living so I appreciate the nature of developing and releasing software products. My goal with this post is not to get angry or try to rip into anyone, but to help get the issue resolved by trying to provide any pertinent information I have and stress just how important I feel the issue is. Heck, I've joined the forum today solely to post on this issue. If you guys need any help with troubleshooting by having me try a few things with my phone (aside from mailing it in, of course ), PLEASE let me know. I've waited so long for this game and for it to have such a crucial issue really bums me out. Hopefully it can get resolved soon! Thanks so very much for finally bringing OOTP to the pocketable platform! I really, truly do appreciate it and I look forward to leading the Braves to the Commissioner's Trophy soon. |

I did not do it every time, but I did do it twice, including my most recent and longest-surviving league (Majors first offseason). As soon as iOOTP was redownloaded, I rebooted the phone, and then made iOOTP the first app I opened. iOOTP "survived" through a lengthy FaceTime conversation last night (I would think that would be one of the most resource-intensive things the phone could do), but this morning, the only app I had open between iOOTP working and then getting the DB Problem was beeJive GoogleTalk.
I suppose I could try running the game for a while without opening beeJive GT. I wouldn't think a chat app could snuff out iOOTP, but I haven't done any iPhone development so I'm no expert. |

I had the corrupt file problem. But what happened for me was I loaded a new league then later deleted it. I still had another league saved. I hit the continue button, instead of load and the game was trying to load the league deleted.
