Great idea.

It's a little disappointing to see the date nudged back to "late May" instead of "early May", but still nice to see some updates. I was hoping to put off starting up a version 11 league, but a month is a long time to go without playing.

Do what I did. Start that new league with 11 and hunker down for the long haul.

I don't want to be labeled as a complainer but I HATE how the release was delayed because of the Iphone version. My selfish side says I have no interest in that version and will never play it or own an iphone so screw all the people who do. But, I also understand it's a nice way for ootp to reach a wider audience and help in the long run. Still, if I were in charge I'd release version 12 first, then worry about the iphone people.

I'm with you there, and I own an iPhone. But, Markus makes his decisions because they are his to make.

I guess the hope is that a lot of people will try the cheaper and stripped down iPhone version and be tempted to pick up the full pc/Mac version. (I know I would)

That makes sense to me.

It's all a ploy to increase OOTP 12 Mac sales.

It's a valid complaint, but think of the long term benefit. Markus has taken some valuable development time (and risk) to integrate another programmer into the OOTP cycle. I can only think that this will benefit him and us going forward, in this version and future versions. The toughest decisions to make in business are the ones where the benefit is delayed or not obvious. I applaud it.

It's so funny you appeared again. I was trying to remember who first asked that question, and I do remember you taking a beating over it!

Many posters here like to place a protective shield around OOTP no matter what.

I call it the way it is. I have both, legitimate complaints and compliments about OOTP.

I love this game and buy every version. Some posters just need a reality check.

Yeah, I brought up the same thing in the original iOOTP announcement thread, though it was quickly dismissed without little fanfare. You, however, got treated like you were a complete moron for even suggesting that rolling out the iPhone verson would push back the release date of OOTP12. Seems rather foolish to think that Markus wouldn't have to spend at least a little time helping to roll out the product, even if he wasn't the main developer of it.

I think it is simply because it is not even in beta yet. Some of the details might change if they don't work exactly as expected. I would not really expect details until at least beta maybe not even until road to releases are being published. Even under beta details of features are subject to change depending on what is working and what is not or if there is a better way to implement said feature.

Based on recent news pieces, they'll be easy to find.

I know that I am a pain about this but Markus left the door open in a post a few weeks ago. With all of the chatter about IRL baseball moving towards a bye format I am hoping that it sneaks in.

Well I am glad for the update....

Personally I believe that the Baseball world is fickle (and I have been a devout member of the Baseball world for 45+ years).... fans get in a buying frenzy right before the season and then slack off. Maybe Marcus believed that the iPhone version would generate enough income to offset the loss of the "just before the season begins frenzy buyer".... Personally I doubt that it will....

I remember one extremely important rule in business and in marketing.... be very careful of alienating the customers who helped build your business while expanding into new markets... therefore I personally believe he made a mistake concentrating on the iPhone app versus getting his bread and butter out prior to the season... All of the competitions have had their new versions out for a while now.

I believe OOTP is a good product but it certainly is not without rivals.... I hope that this decision does not hurt Markus because I believe he and Dave Koch stand out in this strange little hobby that we have.

Again, I am looking forward to giving the new version a go and I have many other distraction until it is released (version 11 will not be one of them). If my advice would have been sought out I would have advise getting version 12 out first and then concentrating on the iPhone app.

Of course other factors may have played a part, such as number of sales of prior year products. Have they gained or been on a decline? This certainly could have influenced his actions.

For some reason, taking pre-orders, and then choosing to concentrate on another product somehow just does not sit well.... maybe this is influenced by the fact that I can't stand the "big brother" company that believes they invented the i.... now that I think about it, maybe the fruit company actually had a huge influence in this decision, requiring release of the iPhone app by a certain date...

I think you might be right about Markus. But I disagree about the second part. I was part of the iOOTP beta team. I think it'll be a huge success. It could turn into a "cash cow" for OOTPD.

Good call. I thought about that when I read the update and it put a smile on my face. This is what I'm talking about when I say nobody ever accused the apologists of being smart. They just see something negative about the game or its developers and attack...kind of like fish that eat their young. Or dogs that chase their own tail. The best thing to do is shake your head and laugh.

And I do agree that OOTP 12 should've been a priority over iOOTP 2011, but I can understand wanting to get the easier one out first...plus, depending on how long it takes Apple to approve 2011, they might end up hitting the market around the same time anyway. As long as he sticks to his word about providing regular updates, he's fulfulling his obligation.
