Help with mods
Hi
Apologies if this has all been covered before, but I've waded through the forums and am still having trouble figuring out what to do. I've just purchased OOTP11 (my first ootp game). I tried installing the all-in-one patch, installed it ok, but the game would crash every time I tried to look at a player's details etc, so I gave up and re-installed the game without it. I'm playing on a Powerbook G4, so I don't know if it's not up to running the mod? What I wanted most was to have the correct current logos appearing on the menus etc, and the ballparks when i play games, so I've downloaded the 'mlb the show ballparks' and 'major league baseball logos 1898 to present', and am trying to figure out how to install them. Do I just copy all of the ballpark jpgs and the logo jpgs into the 'ballparks' and 'logos' folders in my documents/out of the park developments/ootp baseball 11? if i do that, will any new games I setup use the new graphics? Also, if i want to delete any saved games, do i just delete the *.lg folder in the saved_games folders? Thanks - any help would be much appreciated. |

You can, but it's better to use the Delete League function on the Load Saved Game dialog.

theres never a dumb question on here this game can become complex with all the mods.....for none real MLB leagues such as a MAL league check out Gambo's 2011 seating chart..it has all the dimensions of every park ever made..mostly....and has a way where u can create dimensions for custom parks and get good batter/pitcher #'s for them...works great if u use Blueturf/Teflon parks.....also not sure if u like alt uniforms but many people have photobuckets that have a plethora of uniforms of them..and also Gambo's 1901-2011 compiled uniform set is great especially if u play a historical league from 1901 - today.

Thanks again. I managed to import some new logos, which look great! Will have a go at the ballparks next.
I'm actually pretty new to baseball as a sport as well as OOTP, which will make it challenging!! I enjoy watching it when I get the chance, but I don't get to watch much (live in England), and don't yet fully understand all the stats etc...but I'm working on it. I try to follow the Red Sox on MLB.com. If anyone can recommend some online resources to help with learning some the stats, strategies etc, that would be help a lot. At the moment I'm just going through watching a season, and seeing what happens...it's fascinating so far

The problem you are having with the crashing has a simple explanation, though since you are new to the game it might be a bit confusing at first.
One of the things you get with the all-in-one is a set of .fg files which go into the fg_files folder. These files produce what are called the Photofit pictures for players: computer generated pictures that are intended to look like the players they depict. The game is set to produce these by default whenever you try to look at a Player Profile or anything else that uses player photos/pictures. HOWEVER: the fg files will cause your Mac to crash, because they will only run on Intel-based Macs. So what do you do? First, go to Game Preferences (or OOTP Preferences) to the FaceGen tab, and at the bottom set it to prefer Photos, not PhotoFit pictures. That will probably solve the problem. If not, go to the lg folder for your saved game, to the News/HTML/Images folder, and erase all the files there that are called player_XXXX.png (with the XXXX being a number). Hope that helps. |

How to keep your Mac G4 from crashing
I had this same problem on my PowerBook G4 and on an older Cube desktop. Steve P gave you the same advice he gave me and it worked. However, I posted a thread entitled "One player crashes the game"; the last entry in that thread is a step-by-step list of what I did to correct the problem in each of the leagues I had created. You might want to search for that thread and go through the step-by-step list. I've had no problems since. Thanks again Steve P.
