Version and Release Date

OOTP 11 = 4/12/10
OOTP 10 = 6/4/09
OOTP 9 = 6/18/09
OOTP 2007 = 3/22/07
OOTP 2006 = 5/30/06

The over/under should be 5/11/11.

Previous versions have more often come out in June than April

IMO, the fact that we get a new version each year ROUGHLY at the same time is amazing and something that most games likely cannot say.

Ditto - having so much fun with 11 that I can't think of a reason to even buy 12 other wanting to aid the cause.

Same here. In fact, looking at the feature list, there isn't a whole lot of stuff in there that I'm interested in as I won't be using 2011 rosters, won't be using financials, and don't play historical.

The only feature I'm intrigued by is the world database revamp and how it might improve my fictional league, but as of yet, that is all I know about it.

I'll still get it, buy 11 is just fine for me

My only reason to buy 12 is to keep up with my online league. I am still having a blast with 11.

It's the average of the release dates for the past 5 years. No special info here.

The reason sports games' release dates are important is because sports, and the interest in them, are seasonal.

We, like most people on the boards here, are going to buy the next version whether it's out in March or June.

But board members are probably the minority of sales. Interest in each sport peaks at the beginning and end of the season. Thus, the interest in a game representing that sport is going to peak at the beginning and end of the season.

I'd be absolutely shocked if there weren't several sales lost because the game isn't out by opening day. And even more sales lost because Mogul (and The Show, etc., though that's a slightly different market) beat OOTP to the punch.

It might only be a handful, but small dev shops survive on handfuls of sales. So it's probably not insignificant.

And by the OOTP transitive property: more sales = more OOTP development = finally getting customizable playoffs (one can hope...).

Shaun Sullivan (creator of Puresim) said that he is very pleased with his sales numbers so far, and I think he at least partially attributes it to having the release prior to opening day. He decided on a release date and stuck to it. He prioritized the features and just stopped new development to give himself enough time to just work on bug fixes as needed. It was a good plan.

I'm having a lot of fun with Puresim 4, playing a historical league that I started with the 1970 Yanks. I just edged Baltimore for the AL East, but lost to Oakland in the ALCS. When OOTP 12 comes out (which I preordered) I will probably compare the results of the two for historical play. Both will get some playing time and I'll have to see which one wins out as my 'main' baseball game. I play a ton of other games so baseball games aren't my only thing.

No, I think the latest and greatest official estimate was the "end of April or beginning of May" so my guess is around the first week in May.

I'm glad they're making a best guess...but they make it clear it's merely an estimate.

Here's the last update I'm aware of: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ll-update.html

Maybe someone knows something more recent.

But, again, it says around the beginning of May.

Clearly it is, all of his posts recently have been in that section. He's giving more attention to that project and thus holding this one back.

Doesn't matter to me though, I'll stick with OOTP11 for awhile. We're playing the waiting game right now, but even once the game is released we'll have to play the waiting game for several more months while Markus works on the patches... Game won't be done DONE until October probably.

Of course do I have to spend time on iOOTP from time to time. In August when we hired Sebastian, I had to 'teach' him the OOTP code, which took a good 2 months until he could develop without much help. And from time to time I have to check the project and help/assist in certain areas, but that's simply the way things work when your company develops several products. It was the same back when we did ITP (2003/2004)

Cheers,
Markus

Thank you for that info Markus. It helps to understand the concept on how it is all working out.
