MLB 2011 Opening Weekend - Plans

Just wondering how the rest of you baseball junkies plan on spending you 2011 opening weekend. This will be the 1st yr in the last 9 that I will be home for it (work out of house) ESPN has 3? games on on Thursday i will be in front of my TV & PC watching all 3 games from noon til the last out in the SF vs LA game cruising thru weeks worth of OOTP games.

On Friday both the Sox and the Cubs play. I will watch all the pregame festivities on CSN for both teams. and watch the Sox while i talk to my dad on the phone for 3-4 hrs (Buerhle on the mound more like 2 hrs)

Saturday & Sunday I will watch the Sox and even those Cubs again and whatever other games r on. I hate not having MLB package but i probably wasted $$ on it the last 2 yrs.

If the weather manages to warm up beyond 40 degrees here in Chicago over the weekend I will make my stuffed Hamburgers on the grill. Pull out the MGD thats been in my fridge since the Superbowl and cheer on the hopeful 2011 Champion Chicago White Sox

So how do u treat Opening Weekend...Like Christmas in April or just another weekend worth of MLB games?

It's during Opening Day/Weekend and the Division Series in October that I feel lucky that my schedule allows me to be home in the afternoons. I'll watch Brewers/Reds tomorrow, and then whatever is on Friday afternoon/early evening before A's/M's on MLB Network on Friday night. It's going to be a fun weekend before we get used to daily games again.

Tomorrow morning I am heading to the Findlay Market Opening Day Parade (a very big deal here in Cincinnati), followed by Reds Opening Day against the Brew Crew. I'm a Reds season ticket holder who lives one block from GABP, so you can probably guess how I'll be spending my weekend. So glad baseball is back!

I'm a little worried about the opening series between CWS/CLE. Friday and Sunday look okay, just cold. Saturday the forecast is for rain/snow showers. Good times. With any luck we won't have to move the opening series to Milwaukee again...

Gibson swings, and a fly ball to deep right field! This is gonna be a home run! Unbelievable! A home run for Gibson! And the Dodgers have won the game, 5 to 4; I don't believe what I just saw! I don't believe what I just saw!

Yeah, it was the home opening series against Los Angeles. The Indians started the season in Chicago, but came home to a major snowstorm pushing the series to Miller Park.

You never know what you are going to get at Opening Day in Cleveland. I went to Opening Day in 2000 and got a sunburn. But as mentioned, we've had more than our share of snowouts too. I'm gonna try to leave early and catch the Friday game on MLB.tv.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think 2000 was just the home opener not official Opening Day. But the point remains...sometimes it's great, sometimes it's miserable.

I have a bit of a ritual I follow every spring. When ST starts, I watch 3 or 4 baseball movies, sort of gets me into the mood.

Then, the day before opening day (today) I watch a couple more baseball movies to really get the juices flowing.

This year, I watched The Natural, Bull Durham, & For Love of the Game in Feb. Tonight it's Field of Dreams and then Eight Men Out.

As for watching real games, I watch whatever is on all weekend. Up here on the east coast of Canada, game selection isn't great, but it's not bad. Usually can watch my Red Sox and of course TSN covers a lot of Jays games. Also get a lot of Chicago games on WGN.

All in all, I'm always pumped for the opening weekend.

Let's Play Ball!

The Braves plays a lot of their early games in the afternoons which will allow me to watch those live on mlb.tv Then when most of them are at night I will have to switch over to watching the game archived the next day.

We put on our jerseys and watch the game while eating/drinking appropriate concession stand goodies. This year, it will be hot dogs, pretzels w/ cheese, and beer. The Angels game is a day game, but I've already told my boss that I have an "appointment" at 1:00.

I did the same I watched For The Love Of The Game last week on AMC, watched Major League 1 on Netflix, White Sox 2005 World Champions DVD, & tried watching Eastbound & Down sn 1 DVD which was the worst show I have ever seen.
I also made a baseball playlist with 211 songs (went a tad overboard)

Its looking iffy this weekend for the Yankees. They're talking rain/snow all day tomorrow and friday so we're not sure whats gonna happen for the opener tomorrow. Hopefully its an april fools day joke and we get a sunny great weekend

I'll be catching parts of the parade from my office above fountain square, especially if today's weather repeats itself. I imagine productivity will be minimal. Also, Skyline is giving out free cheese coneys, something I can't resist.
