I can't stand him either because his 1966 Topps card was short printed and I will have to spend a lot on it to finish the set.

Ha!

As a gag birthday guft (in the eighties) I got him to sign a card ('73 Topps maybe?) for my Dad that said "To my biggest fan Frank"

It was great, he even forgot to sign his own name after making the requested inscription and as it turned out, my Dad loved it. lol - suddenly, he wasn't so down on old Horace.

Wow, love the Tommy Brookens pick. I went with Lemon in center, but Leflore was close second, followed by Mickey Stanley.

When my brother was 14, he made a stuffed Tom Brookens in Home Ec class for me complete with mustache and home Tigers uniform.

I still have it - should take a photo and post it to boost my geek cred.

EDIT: formatting updated

Starting Lineup
C: Roy Campanella
1B: Lou Gehrig
2B: Roberto Alomar
SS: Omar Vizquel
3B: George Brett
LF: Ted Williams
CF: Joe DiMaggio
RF: Rocky Colavito

Bench
C Sandy Alomar Jr.
1B Andre Thornton
IF Rance Mulliniks
IF Jackie Robinson
OF Manny Ramirez
OF Super Joe Charboneau
OF Larry Doby

Pitching Staff
Sandy Koufax
Bob Feller
Addie Joss
Herb Score
Sam McDowell
Wilbur Cooper
Jim Abbott
Gary "Ding Dong" Bell
Ernie "Macho" Camacho
Doug Jones

Andre Thornton was my favorite player as a kid. His nickname was Thunder. Alomar and Vizquel were the slickest tandem I ever saw; they were fun to watch every day. Macho Camacho was an awful Indians closer inthe early 80s, but he had a cool nickname. I played an season in Tony LaRussa 1 with the all-time Pirates and Wilbur Cooper was the ace; I always like pitching with him. Doug Jones did a lot with so little stuff. He probably imports with a 1/20 stuff...lol.

Clearly guys like Doby and Robinson and Abbott are more for who they were than how they played. Though they were all pretty good too. Sorry I copied a couple guys (Joss and Super Joe).

EDIT 2: I can't believe I almost forgot Rance Mulliniks! He hit the first foul ball I ever caught. I was on a school field trip in 6th (?) grade at old Cleveland Municipal stadium. Joe Gordon, you're cut!

this team would rival mine....In 1 of my High Heat leagues I had Tampa Bay as exclusively Asian...since when is Tadahito Iguchi a 1B? I liked Takatsu when he played for the Sox he is the only pitcher I have ever seen that went from throwing 84 to throwing 47 the next pitch.

Probably not the greatest line up and some choices may raise an eyebrow, in the end I went with a team of favourites and resisted the temptation of put the best players I've seen on the roster. Also it's a team of players I've watched in the flesh so to say, a couple of players wouldn't have made the roster but for the fact that I didn't want to put duplicates into the team, examples being Pedro Martinez and Paul O'Neill.

C. Mike Matheny
1B. Carlos Delgado
2B. Craig Biggio
SS. Rey Ordonez
3B. Ken Caminiti
LF. Rusty Greer
CF. Lenny Dykstra
RF. J. D. Drew

Bench.

Todd Hundley
Jose Vidro
Chipper Jones
Bill Mueller
Brian Giles
FP Santangelo

SP. Kevin Brown
SP. David Wells
SP. Ben Sheets
SP. John Smoltz
SP. Todd Stottlemyre

RP. Mike Fetters
RP. Jesse Orosco
RP. Dan Plesac
RP. Chad Fox
RP. Curt Leskanic

CL. Billy Wagner

I have a confession to make, Smoltz was actually a closer when I watched him play against the Brewers but needed him as a starter

Great Thread! Don't even know where to start on a list like this (well, that's a lie - it starts with Griffey!) I'll try to stick with who I saw IRL, but I'll have two exceptions, Gehrig and Williams.

C. Mike Piazza
1B. Lou Gehrig
2B. Ryan Sandberg
SS. Nomar Garciaparra
3B. Robin Ventura
LF. Ted Williams
CF. Ken Griffey Jr.
RF. Ichiro Suzuki

Bench.

Andre Dawson
Tony Gwynn
Chipper Jones
Frank Thomas
Albert Puljos
Bo Jackson

SP. Randy Johnson
SP. Greg Maddux
SP. Nolan Ryan
SP. Jack Morris
SP. Pedro Martinez

RP. Bobby Thigpen
RP. John Smoltz
RP. Denis Eckersley
RP. Rod Beck
RP. Kerry Wood

CL. Trevor Hoffman

A lot of dupes from previous posts, if I have time I'll edit and change out some. Need a utility infielder on the bench too.

trying to figure why no one has a true team except for about 5 of us....everyone else compiled their own HOF list no offense to the last post but your bench is as good or better then your starters. I see I am not gonna take every team if I put this into a league. doesnt anyone like role players any more?

The way I look at it is that it was for your top 25 all time favorite players - which is pretty hard - at least for me and everybody on my list really was a favorite of mine.

Basically, I put together a team out of my favorite players. No offense to role players, but I like Ryan Theriot and would be considered a favorite, but between him and Nomar - I'm taking Nomar (also liked him more anyways but hopefully you see my point).

Maybe an idea is to build a team out of your favorites but cap the HOF or probably HOFs (like Griffey) ofcourse then we'll be arguing someone credentials. Hmmmm, I see a project

Great thread idea by Cf76, gave me an excuse to dig out some old scorecards and remember some great times in Wisconsin on holidays. Looking back and Ben Sheets should have had me on his payroll, I've watched him pitch 6 times, he won 5 and had a no decision in the other.

I dunno its just the players I like the most out of my top 10 only 3 are in the HOF (or soon to be) Thomas, Dawson, Maddux.

Fair enough. I'll have to work on a top favorite team, as opposed to favorite top team. Mostly be early 90s Cubs and Mariners.

Thinking Derrick May, Rick Wilkins, and Jim Bullinger may have a spot on the team. Hows that for a "real" team?
