No Patch for my Version? (Amazon download)

Maybe I should submit a ticket, but I have a feeling I'll just get told to ask Viva games, but since I don't want to wait a couple days to get an answer maybe someone here knows.

I bought the Deluxe Version (Online download only) of OOTP 11 on Amazon Games. Obviously I don't have a CD Key or a CD, so when I install Viva's patch for Deluxe I get securom issues because of the no CD issue. I'm guessing they made their patch solely for a boxed version. Anyone else buy this version and get an answer on how to patch your game?

Now that I think about it...no actual disk, no CD key, no license info in the license tab...I'm wondering if Amazon is even selling a legal version of this game.

Why don't you contact Amazon?

Contact Amazon for a patch? Odds are slim, but I definitely will give it a try, if only to get my money back eventually.

I really doubt that Viva will release to me a SecuRom-less patch, they'd probably prefer a disgruntled customer than take a chance on that.

I got the CD version from AMZN, and was able to download the correct patch. It was uh... this was the filename:

ootp_deluxe_update_11.2.28

Yup got it, I don't have a CD to put in my drive, and it updates the .EXE file to look for the CD. So basically there's no way to use that patch with the digital download version.

I think what you ought to do is to contact Viva...thru Amazon, especially if you're going to want a refund in the event that you're not satisfied with Viva's response.
Go to Amazon, and to the "track your recent orders" page.

There is something confusing/concerning about a CD version being sold as a download. Correct me if I misunderstood the OP.

I went on to Amazon and found that the deluxe edition ships as a disk. Did I miss a link somewhere.

Can the OP give the download link used?

Amazon.com: Out of the Park Baseball 11: Video Games

Still waiting on a reply from Viva Games. I'm sure it'll be a week if at all before they get back to me. Amazon Games does not issue refunds for any reason (makes sense, they can't tell if I uninstall) so if Viva Games can't supply a patch basically I'll be stuck with vanilla. Maybe OOTP will supply me with a license key if I fork over another 9.99 to them...lol.

Thanks.

Does the game run from the downloaded file? What version is it? Look at the top left of your screen as it loads.

11.0.0. Viva Deluxe Version

Basically Amazon lets you download the installer .exe file though Amazon's download service. After you download the installer Amazon has their own way to verify you purchased the game (by checking the purchase record or something) and then you're free and clear to install and play 11.0.0 like pretty much anyone else...

I know that's a little vague how it verified my purchase but it happened automatically.

Well you certainly have the right to get patches in a timely manner. If Viva or Amazon doesn't get back to you in 72 hours, I'd certainly submit a ticket to OOTP.

Screw amazon on their no-refund policy. Involve your credit card company as your advocate. I find a disputed charge based on the company not helping you usually gets a quick response.

Good luck.

Post a review on Amazon:
Amazon.com: Out of the Park Baseball 11: Video Games

Right now the only review posted does nothing but rave about the (unpatched) game, but the reviewer doesn't mention the inability to apply the four patches that have been released.
I'd be sure to mention that particular drawback.

Still, for $10 ...... I've gotten involved in worse deals.

Be well,

Thank you for the idea. I will definitely bring up a disputed charge with my bank to Amazon and in my second request to Viva Games.

I wish I had seen this...I saw the CD on sale at Amazon and bought it. CD arrived in the mail and installed, but there's no license. When I went to patch, it basically treated me like I hadn't bought the game, with the options coming up to Buy OOTP or enter the license key.

As long as Viva is selling the game legally, seems we should be able to get patches from OOTP without any problem.

Yup, you just have to go to the Viva site. They have the patches there.

According to Viva Media they have not and will not create a patch for the digital download version. Luckily OOTP came through and gave me a free license key.

OOTP customer service 10/10 Viva Games customer service 1/10 (1 point because they bothered to respond, even though I had to ask OOTP to make them respond).
