Super Noob Question about baseball
So in the MLB there are 30 teams. Why is the league split 16-14 as opposed to 15-15? I figure there must be a reason since OOTP won't allow leagues with an odd number of teams per sub-league.
Anybody care to enlighten me on this topic? Thanks. |

7 AL games, 8 NL games. If you had them even there would have to be an interleague game basically most days. I havent done the math to know if it could work out if they did 15/15 but I suppose it makes it easier just to keep leagues in even numbers. Last edited by jbergey22; 02-23-2011 at 09:30 PM. |

You are welcome. I havent really went through scheduling options much in OOTP. Is there no option for a 15/15 set up with more interleague games? It would be very possible to create a schedule of a 15/15 league if say you had 60 interleague games per team Id think. |

Couldn't you do it this way? --- 15 AL teams, 15 NL teams. Every day one team per sub-league sits out, leaving 14 AL and 14 NL playing. That makes 7 AL games and 7 NL games per day without interleague play.
Just a thought. |

Im sure that would work. It would be difficult to make that schedule though in real world. In the game in might work ok because you dont have to worry about travel as much.

15/15 split u would have 1 team off each day of the week, so u would have 5-6 off days per week...forgot who wrote teh article several yrs ago about that my guess would be Tim Kurkjian or Buster Olney when Baseball Weekly was still around.

It's very nice to have all 5 team divisions.

It could be done you would just have teams with days off in the middle of a series. Instead of the standard Mon-Thur days off a team might have to take a day off on a Saturday which Im sure they wouldnt approve of for financial reasons. In OOTP it seems you could do it if you really wanted to.

Are you talking about the 15/15 or the 6X5 division format? I guess it wouldnt really matter. Thats cool that you could fit in it I was wondering if it was possible. So basically you are starting the season with interleague and ending with interleague and it works out so no team has like a 3 game break at any point without oddities such as The Yankees playing at Pittsburgh 1 day and flying to San Fran for a 2 games series followed by heading back east to take on the Marlins for a game? I know but I move Pit for 1 reason only it splits up the 2 Penn State teams so they can play there 6 games in interleague. Plus theres more Cubs fans in Milwaukee then there r Sox fans, so Cubs playing the Brewers in Miller is another home series.

I never worked up the idea in enough detail to see if it'd work for the full season schedule though... Last edited by Le Grande Orange; 02-24-2011 at 05:25 AM. |
