RIP Dave Duerson

Former Bears safety Duerson found dead - Chicago Breaking Sports

A real shock to this long-time Bears fan...

They donated his brain , its good that they will get a chance to see how bad it was and what caused him to do this. It was suicide

His age and unfortunate suicide are suggestive of traumatic brain injury. The recent setbacks in his life are very much the same story as many other ex-NFL players.

Apparently Duerson himself thought so:
Quote:
As a longtime force in the N.F.L. players union, Duerson, 50, was keenly aware of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, the degenerative brain disease linked to depression, dementia and occasionally suicide among more than a dozen deceased players. He had expressed concern in recent months that he might have had the condition, said one person close to him who spoke on condition of anonymity.
