Two Lineup questions

I have two lineup questions:

1)Is there a way to keep my back up catcher from leading off on days that he starts? My regular catcher does not lead off.

2) How do I enforce player rotation? I set my lineups indicating which player should start ever 2, 3, 4 days. In spring training, the lineups do not follow my pattern. In fact, my starting catcher starts every day. My backup catcher got about 6 at bats in the first 12 games of spring training. He should have started 6 games. When I paste lineups into the 7 day lineup screen, my pattern is also ignored.

Any ideas? Am I not doing something that I should be doing?

(My suggestion for the next version will be the ability to restrict lineup positions. For example, player A can never lead off. Player B can bat 4th, 5th, or 6th. Probably should put this on player strategy page.)

No. Markus has refused to make any special batting order restrictions, including catchers.

Not sure about this one. Haven't really looked at ST in awhile. But there is different programming used when the AI manages during ST -- something similar to what is used for All-star games (or the other way around ). That may pre-empt your 7-day lineup. Of course, you have to be sure the option is set to use your 7-day lineups -- it doesn't happen just because you fill in the 7-day lineups. Could that be it?

Yep. It is set to use the 7 day lineups. I guess I just have to be more hands-on than I have been in the past. I have been enjoying being the GM, and playing seasons more quickly. But, I thought I would try to address some of the oddities that occur when playing a week at a time.

I wonder why Markus is opposed to something that would make the game more realistic? Perhaps, he thinks it would give humans too great an advantage, assuming he cannot implement similar behavior in the AI. (The game is so good, it is hard to imagine that this is the case, though.)

Thanks for your response. In the interim, I have started being more hands-on, setting the lineup every day, checking games started, number of ABs, etc. Maybe this will be a more fun way to play, though slower and more cumbersome. I have to go back and forth between the 7 day screen and the RHP line up screen to remember who plays on what day. It is also hard to remember which day it is in the sequence.

Still, very happy. Preordered OOTP 12 for myself and as a gift for a friend.

I am almost certain it is a programming problem. People tend to underestimate the difficulties. And I think that the lineup/batting order/depth chart is probably one of the most complicated parts of the programming in this game.

Just food for thought.

Rockie a few poss. dumb questions

1.when u set your backup C to start every other day was that in teh 7 day lineup or in the lineup screen?

2. if it was lineup screen did u make sure its either with or w/o DH (i dont play with DH)

3. also which features do u have turned on in the screenshot below?

there r atleast the 1st 3 options that if not checked wont let backups start who else hasnt started.

Thanks to both of you for your responses.

SteveP: I have done some programming, but not game AI. So, you are right, it is probably much more difficult than I imagine.

Chicagofan76: Thanks for the screen shot. You may be on to something. I am talking about settings in the regular rhp/lhp/rhp+dh/lhp+dh lineup screens. And, I set them all. In fact, in the spring, I set them all the same to make sure everyone gets practice against lefties and righties. Ah, but, the screen shot is where you score big, I hope. I had allowed the starting of subs, thinking this would allow the fellow who is regularly a sub to start on the second day. Your screen shot makes me think that on the second day the regular starter is the "sub" and therefore gets the start over the inferior fellow who is the "actual sub" in my mind. I will try the opposite setting. Thanks again.

I had a similar problem having my 7 day lineups overriding my start 1 day off the next for the regular lineups for a ST also. So i was hoping thats what it was with you also.
