Players Remaining On Rosters After Being Switched To Different Teams
I have run an online league using Diamond Mind for the last few years and have finally decided to switch over to OOTP. I have spent the last couple of months moving players from team to team throughout the majors and minor league systems. I finally completed this task over the weekend and started getting all teams' 40-man rosters arranged, only to discover that a lot of players who had been moved to other teams still lingered around on their previous team's 40-man roster. I have tried dropping them to the "Release Player" bar at the bottom of the game screen but I always get the message that I need to put them on waivers. But, since these players are no longer on that particular 40-man roster, I am not given the option of waiving them or releasing them, only deleting or retiring them, which I won't do for obvious reasons. How do I get these players off their old teams' 40-man rosters? Thanks in advance.

I exported all the rosters to see if I could correct the problem this way but all the rosters are correct. It's just the 40-man rosters within the game. If I released all players then imported the rosters one by one, would this work or would that just be an exercise in futility?

I ran into this problem, but thankfully on a smaller scale as I just moved a couple of people. I ended up carrying some people (now on a different team) on my 40 man roster until they retired. Then I had to unretire them, add them to my roster, release them and then re-retire them.
If you are doing wholesale changes, I would recommend that you do the option where you release everybody into the free agent list and then set your teams. On a player by player basis, I think you need to release the player first and then reassign them. You may take a popularity hit from the fans if you do this, though, so you might need to reset your fan interest numbers afterwards. Last edited by Bahgoon; 02-07-2011 at 02:58 PM. |

Thanks. I was hoping not to have to do that but I will give it a shot.

That actually worked easier than I thought it would! I just went to League Options then clicked on "Release All Players / Clear Rosters" and then clicked on "Import Rosters" and imported the text file "ml_rosters" that I was trying to edit. It still put some guys on 40-man rosters that our teams didn't use, but at least now every player is on the team they should be on and no one is left stuck on a previous team's roster.
