8/27 Updated Historical Facegen Pack Sent to Padres

This should be available soon. This will be our last update until at least after the World Series.

This updated collection has 8802 people from the Lahman Database, 160 additional people from the Spritze/Gambo databases.

This set includes but is not limited to...

All players from 1871-1903
All players from 1975-1989
All Expos up to 1994
All Hall of Famers
All the top 2303 players by appearances (as ranked by H.F.P.)

This is 8738 of the 17293 players who played in the majors (50.5%)

I just want to take the time to give a sincere thank you to the folks who work on these, create them, post them, host them, etc. I don't think anything else in 11 has added as much enjoyment to my OOTPing as the fg files.

I would like to echo my thanks to everyone who works on this. It's amazing how much more I get into the game being able to see some of these historical players changing uniforms as they get traded or sign with new teams.

I have found a couple of faces, however, that appear to be broken. The first one I stumbled upon is Shawon Dunston. I viewed his profile the other day and he looked almost hispanic. I tried doing "Same face" in the picture options and suddenly he was caucasian. I played around some more and got what I believe is a fictional face that looks somewhat like Mr. Dunston, but I don't think it's based off the fg file. When I went to look at his fg file, I noticed it was only 300 bytes - much smaller than most of the other ones.

Then I stumbled upon Tim Flannery. When I went to view him, he looked like a demon! It was almost like his face was covered with dark black hair like a sasquatch or something. I looked at his fg file and noticed that it also was only 300 bytes. I ended up generating a fictional face for him as well.

Can someone who works on the Historical Facegen project take a look at those two files and let me know what the story is with those? Did I just get bad copies? I noticed a few other very small fg files like Roger McDowell, who also has a 300 byte file, but his face looks OK in game to me.

As for the Flannery and Dunston. I will go ahead and redo them pretty quick. I haven't noticed the issue but it may be there is a flaw in the saved file. It looks like there are about 99 guys who may have the issue but I can't be certain it affects all of them. When we have the chance we may go back and redo them just in case but right now I'll fix a few of them just in case.

In case you're curious we are now over 12,000 done ~(5000 to go). We we issue another updated bunch around the time the new game comes out but we are still slowly working through these.

Sounds awesome - glad you are looking into the issue and I'll be excited to see your next update in a few months. I'm playing in the mid 80s right now and to be honest, I rarely come across a player who doesn't have a PhotoFit face.

Awesome... we've gotten 1871-1920 done and are up to 1994/1995 on the modern players so we're doing good.

That happen sometimes with some of my players while I play and I have no idea of what cause this. But I can assure you the facegen are ok, since it happened with the one I did also. When that happens this is what I do : I generate a fictional facegen and after I import the real facegen file for the player. I've always fix the problem this way.

Yeah there are some weird quirks in Facegen. After I generated a fictional face for Dunston (that looked more like him) and Flannery (that didn't have a giant black mark across his entire face), the following season their faces went back to the incorrect faces.

A few seasons later, I just happened to notice that Dunston looks like himself - not the fictional one I generated, but it actually looks like him. I went and checked Flannery and he also looked like himself now. I'm not sure what changed, but they seem to be correct now. The only thing I can think of is that both players changed uniforms, so their pictures were re-generated. Dunno.

Long story short... I guess the FG files themselves are OK after all.

do these facegen files include negro leaguers as well?

There are some Negro leaguers in there that I've done, however, not too many. I plan on there being more when we do out next update for OOTP!2.
