Eliminate the Pro Bowl

Even the NFL can’t avoid recognizing the Pro Bowl is a dud | ProFootballTalk

Time to just ditch this concept altogether and simply make it an award like the Golden Glove. It's not even a close equivalent of the All-Star game. It draws nowhere near the attention and frankly matters to who anymore?

Think we should give it the "let's not and say we did?"

The only thing is you could replace the actual game with a skills contest. I would be much more interested in seeing Chris Johnson, Desean Jackson, and others run a 40 yard dash and see who wins. Or seeing who can throw the farthest or even set up an obstacle course for the pure athletes and see who can do it the quickest.

No no. Let the game decide the home team for the Super Bowl.

I really like the idea, I just don't think that the players will agree to participate. (Especially if the 18 game schedule goes into effect.) If you do it during the season, the players won't participate because they are trying to heal an all. They will not do it at the end of the year because they are physically depleted and injured and all. I just don't know when we would do this???

I agree that teh Pro Bowl should be canned.....the players don't care anyway and it really shows.

The Pro Bowl reminds me of Old Yeller. You kinda like to have it around for old time's sake, but you realize it's just a shell of it's former self and needs to be put down.

I like this idea. Either skills competitions or kind of like the old ABC Superstars show. As long as all the pro bowlers still get a trip to Hawaii, I'm all for eliminating the game itself.

That's the beauty of this, a 40 yard dash isnt much risk of injury and you can do even while you're trying to heal. As long as they keep the drills simple like this and relatively risk free, I'd say why not. You have a less chance of getting injured then playing at even half speed as they do now. Maybe even throw in a prize for the winner.

I think that they should just play the Pro Bowl on a PS3 and televise it.

They could always have two guys picked for each conference and have them pick teams.

Or maybe play the college all-star teams of senior players
So you know they are headed to the draft and give You an idea of what the
Player can do against the pros. A player can get hurt in any game. Baseball trys to
Get every player in the game and football players don't seem to have that same
desire. What if they made the pro bowl and hall of fame one game at the begining of
the season so all the players are rested. They don't play starters that much in
Pre-season anyway. Plus people probably care about the HOF game as much as the Pro-Bowl.

Man, I think I read someplace that the NFC was up 42-0 in the first half. Is that true? I didn't watch the game, obviously.

If it is true, then it was an indication that the players were going through the motions, on one side at least. I don't think they'd play any harder for Super Bowl location, either.

That incentive may work in baseball but not football, IMO. The difference? The greater danger of injury in football. That, not fatigue, is the problem. Who is going to want to run flat out, tackle or block hard, leap for a TD in a meaningless game if it means the possibility of serious injury?

Baseball can get by with a bit of that and still put on a respectable show. Not football, as we saw.

I like the idea of skills competition instead.

They already have that, it's called the Senior Bowl. If you're suggested playing college players against NFL All-Stars though like your 2nd idea kinda seems, I think that would gain even less interest, All-Stars got beat 42-0 at one point so I can't imagine the blowout would be against college kids. But if you just mean college seniors, they already have a game for that.

How would you have an all-star game at the beginning of the season? Doesn't really make much sense to vote them in the year before and then see them play a whole year later when they haven't played in 8 months.

Home team on a neutral site makes no difference for the Super Bowl.

I would like then to move the Pro Bowl to midseason, which yeah I know creates a ton of problems and then have the winner of the of the pro bowl say the NFC have the Super bowl be in Green Bay this yr vs Dallas. Yeah that creates problems also with the upcoming blizzard.

All All Star games overall have been terrible the last 10 yrs. NBA scores approaching 200 each. NHL scores of 11-10 joke. MLB running out of players.

Get rid of them all and just name the players as an All Star without playing the game. Keep some of the skills competitions surrounding each sports games.

The nanoseconds that I watched looked more like an old fashioned Sunday church social than a football game. A yawnfest and a farce rolled into one. Pathetic.

Name the All-Pro teams after the conclusion of the season, so the players get the honour to put on their C.V., but ditch the game, which has zero relevance and may never have had any in its entire history.

Hate to be the bubble burster but
Pro Bowl earns best television rating since 2000 - Super Bowl XLV - SI.com

Highest ratings in 11 years.
So probably not going anywhere.

What would be the point of eliminating it?

Its not as if it is costing the NFL a lot of money to put it on and its not as if anyone complaining about the meaningless game HAS to watch it. I dont watch the game anymore but I loved it when I was a kid and really dont understand why it should be eliminated. Is it taking up someones valuable Fox time or what?

Personally, I think all of the All Star games arent worth watching but I have no desire to see them gone as I know a certain "niche" of people do watch them.

I've never real bothered with the Pro Bowl, but somebody must be watching it or they wouldn't show it if they were losing money on it so leave it as it is. Also don't they give money from the game to charity ? Sure I heard something about it but maybe mistaken, but if that's the case then 100% keep it if somebody is gaining from it.

If they cancel it, how is DeAngelo Hall supposed to get a new Escalade?

Quote:
Although competitiveness during the game was at an overwhelming low, the Skins cornerback was able to come out on top and take home a new Cadillac.
Hall said, “I was just about to buy another SUV, so to come out here and grab one for free, I like that…”
Good for you DeAngelo
