Williams Cracks The 100 RBI Mark in 11-7 Pounding Of Chicago

Chicago- Boston slugger Ted Williams capped of a six run second inning with a tremendous 3 run homer off of White Sox pitcher Bill Wight this afternoon and 2B Bobby Doerr added two hits and three RBIn as the Red Sox slugged their way to an 11 to 7 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Williams' homer was his 20th of the season, and his 3 RBI gave him 101, putting him on pace for a 175 RBI season, which would tie him with Jimmy Foxx and Lou Gerhig for 4th best all time. "The Kid" is also within striking range of the all-time record of 191, set by the Cubs Hack Wilson in 1930.

Lemon Blanks Yankees 3-0

Bob Lemon twirled a five hit shutout, and Larry Doby, Luke Easter, and Ken Keltner each had RBI hits, as the Cleveland Indians blanked the New York Yankees by the score of 3-0, for their 2nd straight victory against the Bombers who have now fallen two and a half games off the pace.

Tommy Henrich, who Bob Feller once told me was the toughest hitter for him to face.

DiMaggio, Sanford Move Yanks To Within Game Of 1st

New York- Slugger Joe DiMaggio launched a 1st inning grand slam, and pitcher Fred Sanford twirled a 3 hit shutout, to give the Yankees a 4-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians and move them to within one game of the top spot in a very competitive American League.
Plagued by wildness in the early going, Indians starter Bob Lemon allowed a double and two walks to start the game, loading the bases for Joe DiMaggio who deposited the first pitch he saw into the left field bleachers for a stunningly quick 4-0 Yankees lead. Lemon, still out of sorts would allow two more walks in the inning before finally settling down to retire the side without any more damage. From there however Lemon was tremendous, allowing just 1 single the rest of the way, but it was too little too late thanks to the spectacular pitching of the Yankees Fred Sanford, who never let the powerful Indians offense get on track, holding them to just 3 singles, One in the first, one in the second and one in the ninth. With the win, the Yankees improve their record to 57-37 and move to within a game of the Tribe who sit at 57-35.
Following a day off tomorrow, the Yanks will host the Tribe for two more before welcoming the White Sox into town for a four game weekend series.

ChiSox Purchase Haefner

Desperate to get out of the second division, the Chicago White Sox have purchased veteran pitcher Mickey Haefner from the Washington Senators for the waiver price of $10,000.
Despite a record of 8-9 and a high ERA of 4.98, Chicago GM Frank Lane felt that the waiver price of ten grand was a worthy gamble for a pitcher who's career ERA sits at 3.38

Ironically Feller should have never had to face him. The Indians had Henrich in their farm system from 1933-36 where he hit .300 or better all three years, still though the Tribe kept him in the minors. Henrich then wrote a letter to Commissioner Landis in 1937 stating the Indians were unfairly keeping him down. Landis agreed and made Henrich a free agent. Soon after he signed with the Yankees

Wight Hurls No Hitter

Boston- In a season in which there has been very little to get excited about, White Sox fans finally got something to cheer about today, when 27 year old pitcher Bill Wight hurled a no hitter at the hard hitting Boston Red Sox in a 2-0 Chicago victory here at Fenway park.
It was the first no-hitter thrown against the Red Sox since Bobby Burke of the Washington Senators did the deed on August 8, 1931. It was also the first White Sox no hitter since Bill Dietrich no hit the St. Louis Browns on June 1st, 1937.
Wight, a 6 foot port sider from Rio Vista, California came to the White Sox from the Yankees along with Aaron Robinson in a February 1948 trade for pitcher Eddie Lopat and has since pitched well despite his 24-28 record.
In today's ballgame, Wight faced a total of 30 batters, walking 4 and striking out one in a game that lasted two hours and twenty six minutes.

Looks like the Braves have come down to earth a little after the break, fortunately the Cardinals haven't gained any ground. I still think the race will go down to the wire.

A no-hitter too! Very cool.

Musial outstanding, of course, but heck of a year by Jeff Heath, especially considering he leads the league in strikeouts as well.

At the rate the Cards are closing, Heath is gonna need help to hold them off. As of now these are the top two teams in baseball, and they've totally left behind the rest of the NL.

Looking through the league stats earlier, I've begun to notice a disturbing trend. Left handed batters are without a doubt performing much better than right handers on average. I began to dig for the answers, and what I found totally depressed me. When I started this league, I left L/R splits on in order to get some variety, this decision has backfired on me big time. What's happening is when the game creates ratings, it's making righty's much better against lefty's and worse against righty's. This of course is reversed for leftys. Combine this with the high number of right handed pitchers compared to leftys and you begin to see whats happening. This leaves me with two choices, continue to play through despite this flaw, or cut my losses and begin anew. After much wrangling, I've decided to restart. Instead of starting back in 1947 though, I'm going to move up a few years to 1960 just to put a fresh face on things. Guys, I'm really sorry about this, nobody feels worse than me. Hopefully you follow along once I get the next one ramped up.

No worries...I completely undersand. I have a hard time playing leagues that aren't set up to my liking as well. I obsessively check each setting multiple times, even after I know its right....and STILL sometimes I miss something. So believe me I understand. In the end its better restart with the settings the way you like and be happy, then force yourself to continue a league that you know in the back of your mind you'll never be able to fully enjoy again.

Dang, I really wanted to see how many games the Reds would lose.....

You know I won't be upset about skipping to 1960....
