From the standing of this year, a four team playoff would already give you the awkward potential of Standford winning over Oregon for the championships. With eight you can have two-loss Arkansas winning over Auburn. I personally believe the biggest mockery of the BCS system this year would have been Auburn/TCU losing and Stanford somehow getting into the championship game against Oregon. We see the case of weaker teams winning the championships all the time in systems with playoffs, and the bigger the system is, the more likely for it to happen. But yeah, I think most Americans do prefer that over finding a way to crown the best team.

Yes a playoff is needed. I haven't watched a bowl game in years, not even the fake Championship game.
Have yet to hear a legitimate excuse from any BCS apologist over the years. Like someone else has already stated, the reason why there is so much resistance against a playoff is the money distribution. The people who run the bowls and big conferences aren't interesting in sharing the wealth. |

Sorry but a system that matches up 2 teams based on a computer system and voting is not a playoff.

And whatever playoff system you can come up would be matching an arbitrary number of teams based on some other arbitrary systems anyway.

I haven't read every post so please forgive me if this was previously posted.
I voted no simply because I like the bowl games and really don't need a clear cut national champion since none of the schools play the same or similar schedule. One 12-0 team is never the same as another in terms of competition faced. That's a reason why I don't care if non-BCS teams are included or not since their strength of schedule is usually much lower than BCS schools (I think Boise State can't find BCS schools to play them, but they still face weaker competition overall).

A thousand times yes, with every conference represented per the rest of the NCAA Division I tournaments.

If they continue to trend towards the merging into super conferences, thats a definite possibility. Could take the conference champ from each of the 6 or 8 Super Conferences(or however many they end up with) and have a playoff.

When Big-12 was on the verge of collapsing just earlier, I was hoping that would be the start of super conferences with Pac-10, Big 10, SEC all going to be 16 teams. If you have the better teams left outside of those forming another super conference, you can have a 64 team super league where playoffs can be easily set up.

Absolutely yes, I drew up a playoff system a while back that I thought would be perfect, I'll see if I can still remember it.
