Do human controlled teams need managers?

I ask because it seems my team is committing an abnormal number of errors and it seems the thing that would affect that in a universal sense is the manager's "teach fielding" trait. Well since I'm GM and manager I never chose a manager. Maybe it just means I have a bad hidden teach fielding trait? Or do I have to hire a manager even though I manage the team in order to get his traits?

Help!

How do you do that? The manager slot on mine is empty. I bet that's why my team is playing so sh*tty right now.

Is that normal?
