Replaying Historical Season

What I would like to be able to do is choose a specific season (say 2005) and redraft the players from that season to only 20 teams (I delete the others) in order to have minor leagues consisting also of established players of that time. Here's my issue: I'd like to be able to look at players' real life statistics of 2005 while drafting for each of the 20 teams. No matter how I mess with it, it won't give me the 2005 statistics for the inaugural draft - it will give me 2004's. I simply want to see how my own constructed teams using 2005 statstics compete against one another. Make sense?

Perhaps relatedly, when I am setting up the season, I choose 2005 as the season but then it asks me if on some occasions if I want my season to start in 2005 and sometimes says 2006. I would the think the answer is 2005 but I'm confused.

I thought of an additional question. If I really want players to replay that year would I do the weights as something like 50% from ratings, 50% from current year's statistics and zero out the influence of previous years' statistics?
