Yes it is possible. Just because you want him to learn it does not mean he will be competent at that position.

The first things to look at are his fielding ratings.
Outfield Range, Error and Arm
Or
Infield Range, Error, Arm and Turn DP.

From this information I make an assessment if he is capable of competence before I try.

In the player strategy screen (Player Profile=>Action=>Set Game Strategy) there is an option at the lower left “Force Start/Use At Position”. This will allow you to lock the player in at the position.

I recommend checking the AI manager’s decision after you use this. If you force a guy to a position and he is clearly the inferior player you may be relegating him to back up on the depth chart.

Good luck,
LP

the best time to have a player learna new position is either in the minors or during spring training...i think the manual says a player needs 25 games at anew position to achieve atleast a rating of 1

I can not find this under player profile. Could you assist? I see the action at bottom right, but no Set Game Strategy option.

What is the difference between Manager's and Bench Coach's AI?

Also? I have tried to run an Historical League Season, and find that if I set all teams to AI, I need to go into each team separately to set lineups, depth, etc.. Is there a way to set the entire league in one or two clicks?

Thanks!!

Well, I don't see what you see, unfortunately. Here is what I get:

I am running the newest version, as just purchased yesterday (Nov 3), and have used the update option within the game, so have the latest release
(11.2.28). Just not sure why I don't match what you have. Hope you understand my frustration.

And yes, this is a brand new league, so not in a season. I know some things can't be changed while a season is running.

If you are running your league as the commish, then the options for set game strategy won't disply (there are some others as well - which I forget). To actively manage a team in commish mode you need to go to your name tab and at the bottom it will say "Act As >" and select the team you want to actively manage. The option will then show.

Sorry for no screen display, never mastered that capability

Bristolduke, Thanks a bunch. Will try that now. You know how it is. New toy, who bothers to look it up in the manual. I'm a guy, don't need no stinkin' manual.

Heh. Seriously, though, I would recommend you at least scan the manual because there may be features in this game that you will never become aware of unless you find them mentioned there or here in the forums. Other than that, enjoy the game!

Oh, I will be reading the manual, just wanted to jump into the game.

I still have 2 questions:

What is the difference between Manager's and Bench Coach's AI?

Also? I have tried to run an Historical League Season, and find that if I set all teams to AI, I need to go into each team separately to set lineups, depth, etc to get everything properly set. Or so it seems. Is there a way to set the entire league in one or two clicks?

Thanks!!

A lot of this is about how you want to run the league, so there are options you get to set.

For example, if I am doing a historical league, I don't usually don't enable scouts and coaches.

From an AI perspective, you can set it to be traditional or sabremetrics based. Also, each manager/coach has their own seetings for whether the prefer vets or youngsters, like power or speed, prefer captain hook (with respect to Sparky) or let the starters go (a la Earl Weaver), believes in AVG or OBP and prefers offense to defense. The AI is the same but depending upon the attributes of you manager/coach the lineups might not look like what you would do.

You can also adjust the league strategy settings, which will also affect how the team is managed.

There is also settings for how the AI even evaluates the talent and trade strategy.

The one-two click option is probably the one you are using, which is default. It again comes down to how you want you league to function. And while the manual will give you hints, it is more trial by error.

I have been trying to teach the player listed below new positions because he can hit but i have about 9 players on my ML and AAA rosters that r good 2B and my starting 2B is a 4 time All Star. but this guy is pissing me off and with the trade i made for a middle IF and the emergence of a rookie that plays all 4 IF spots with superb defense i dont know what else to do with this guy.

How about First Base? I've noticed that guys with good IF ability learn 1b quickly. And a weak arm isn't a huge liability there.

yeah he plays a great 1B but i have a 3 time all star at 1B atleast for 2 more yrs who avg .310/39/131, plus i have 2 OF's that can play 1B. i think i will try putting him as part of a package deal along with my starting 3B to try to get a solid #3 SP

Yeah, that's probably your best bet.
